How to stick it to RIAA - If only it could be done -
07-11-2007, 11:54 PM
Here is an idea, with all the problems we are all (well most of us anyway) having at trying to top up our balances. The music site should open up an "All you can eat download day" and stick it right to the RIAA. While I know this would not help the music site get revenue, lets face it, it is just a matter of time before the balances run out and we cannot support them anyway.
I would just love to see the faces of the execs when they know that there is nothing they can do about people getting music FOC.
Nice concept anyway.
Regards
Cage

I have a feeling this might prove to be detrimental to the hardware upon which this site operates. So, I'd rather not do a proof of concept

This may be a topic for a different thread, but I was thinking on the way home from the office that it must really suck revenue-wise for allofmp3. 5.5 million users, reduced to mere hundreds with MM - a mighty river of revenue turned into a bare trickle. Meanwhile, if you google allofmp3, you get like a ton of wannabe sites that have been waiting in the shadows like vultures and are now probably getting a great deal of business because alltunes users can't refill balances. So each day they don't have an alternative (and with all that infrastructure, it must hurt!) they're losing the potential as well because users won't come back and hope and trust are also starting to fade, unless it's a bunch of loyals (all of you who are reading this and me, too). But we are a small bunch, that's the problem.
This makes me sad... I think I should go have some ice cream. Wait, I hate ice cream. This means I am really sad.

I feel, at least for the time being, that allofmp3s reputation, when (not if) it comes back, will be rebuilt on the stength of its product. There is way too much potential in the site to lose it all within a mere few days. In the meantime, ice cream and this forum is the best therapy. Don't despare just yet.

I hope you are right......one thing I don't understand, is why they have not tried to partner with someone that has CC availability. For a cent or two to that site as payment, there revenue stream will increase again. The site they partner with, would also benefit from some revenue and the CC company would have no idea that the payments are to the music site rather than the partnered site.
Just a thought.

My guess is they are under too much scrutiny at the moment. There are some mighty minds over there (or they wouldn't have come up with such a phenomenal site and have survived this long), but they tried all kinds of things. I think plan Z is probably underway at the moment, and that should transpire in the next few days (if it doesn't, consumer confidence will start dropping, just to utilize my marketing speak).

I really hope you are right. AND............they tell us where/how to get into it.
MM might be good for some, but for us casual users and I'm sure there are many, would just like to download music when it suits, how it suits and a cost that suits.

So you know what? each time you download music from our friends - or even their Russian competitors of which there are many - you are in fact sticking it to RIAA. Vote with your wallet, you know?
