MM Users - Secure Login? - 09-19-2008, 02:25 PM

So, it's known by a few members here that I sometimes go "exploring" on the MM/AOM/MP3S sites. Every now and again, this rewards me with something interesting. And I think this may be one of those times.

While perusing the pages of MM, I came across a link for "Secure Entrance". Obviously, due to the fact I was "exploring" and I didn't want MM to be more upset with me than they would already be for exploring , I couldn't (or didn't think that I could, safely) click the link. I took a look at source of the page but, due to my using a proxy, it only netted me with recoded URL showing me an address generated for/by the proxy. I tried the obvious ,going to https://insertMMwebaddresshere.com and https://www.insertMMwebaddresshere.com , but it times out, as it has for the last several days.

For those that are not MM users (and are following along at home), you may not be aware that the log-in page for MM is typically very different than for mp3sparks. The log-in page for MM looks like this ( to remove MM URL):

And that's all that's displayed both prior to logging in and after clicking "Log Off". For those that are MM users, if you're anything like me, you typically don't see a banner at the top of the MM website showing "Login" and "Password" boxes in the upper right corner, like for mp3sparks.

In order to prove that I'm not going crazy or making this up, as well as to give people some idea of what I've seen, I present the following screen shot:

So, my question is: Has anyone else come across anything regarding a "Secure Entrance"? It sure would be nice, as plain old HTTP for logging in is insecure as heck. Not to mention the fact that I'm a paranoid person who would rather not be surfing a "grey market" site "in the clear".

Am I alone in here? - 09-24-2008, 12:21 PM

hmm...nearly 100 views, but no replies. Surely a MM has seen this thread and can weigh in on if they've seen (or have used) a "Secure Login" over at MM?

Anyone? Hello? Hello? Is this thing on?

If it makes any difference, there isn't a link to login via https anymore at sparks. They probably got rid of it because not many people used it and/or its a hassle to have it not throw exceptions at the user (for self-signed certs and the like).

https requires a certificate for the domain name. given they use individualized subdomains, this would mean they have to get a certificate for each subdomain or make us login over the main domain only.
