Music sites popularity - 03-17-2008, 03:00 PM

According to Alexa, emusic remains convincingly the most popular DRM-free download site that is described on rutunes.com, followed by Mp3Fiesta, which looked set to overtake emusic just after the New Year, but which has seen a drop back since then.

Legalsounds (3) has come from a fairly low base a year ago and while it has been overtaken by MP3Fiesta, it has itself overtaken MP3Sugar which now occupies 4th position. MP3Sparks, in 5th position throughout, has never been able to regain the popularity that AllofMP3 enjoyed until the time of its demise (visible in the spike in the MP3Sparks spike).

I was surprised to see (a) on the one hand that MP3Sparks scores so low compared to its predecessor and (b) that it still scores as high as it does, considering the on-going inability to refill one's balance.

Was it bad? I missed out on all the excitement (unfortunately, this is the kind of excitement we've been reduced to since the memorable July days when each day brought a new twist with the allofmp3/sparks/MM developments).

Don`t worry, Frunze, you didn`t miss much, just someone trying to plug some service or other

Nope, not much action there That guy (I have already forgotten his name ) went the same way as all the others. In fact he was #450 to be banned indefinitely from the forum by me alone aom3 and Nightfly have taken care of their share of spammers too

Many of these have been bots and are quit easily detected - even before they actually post anything, since they all have certain similarities in common*

*Isn't this part a pleonasm?
