How exactly are we benefiting from people joining this site? We don't make money from the number of members who come in here; we don't advertise our personal small business ventures on this site; what we DID do though is get a LARGE number of members transferred from allofmp3 to mp3sparks because their IDs didn't work a few months ago and they would not have been able to log on and make payments to Sparks without us. So we pretty much are here as a friendly bunch but we don't benefit from enhanced traffic to the aom3 forum.

well, some of us have some codes to sell - hence, sending people back to Sparks, in which case it still doesn't behoove them to tell the world we're controlled by RIAA.

This forum has long ceased to be the puppet of AllOfMp3 (except for the times we "bend over" to them). This forum consists of individuals who love music - love it reasonably princes, DRM-free, and so on. As a result this forum emerged into something more - namely, a forum for all other stores that facilitate this idea.

So, if you are suggesting that the message on Sparks is a carefully disguised (beyond recognition, it seems to me!!) plot to direct people to our site - the are intentionally guiding people towards other options, towards their competitors, and away from themselves.

I don't for even one second believe that this is the case. I reject that idea completely. The message on Sparks and MM saying that we are controlled by RIAA is meant to be taken at face value. There are no subliminal messages here, reverse psychology, or gimmicks.

Sorry.

How large a percentage (of the new forum members coming here, directed by that infamous warning billboard... eh, banner, I mean ) do you reckon change ship at mid sea (so to speak)?

I think it's a risk the people at MP3Sparks are quite willing to take to stir their customers in the direction of a few easy payment options

Fine then. I don't bend over often, and certainly not for them

I didn't mean benefiting in a monetary way, I meant building a community. As vik pointed out, this site has evolved into a community of people who enjoy music and discuss different ways that they can obtain the music the way they want, the state of the music industry, and just about music that they like.

While I agree its far fetched, it would make more sense that they are kind of going "don't look over here at this exact site where you can find out how to top up your balance but if you do be careful" than purposefully trying to alienate a part of their customer base. It just wouldn't make sense for them as a business to do so. In any case we'll likely never know the real intentions behind their actions (but I sure do enjoy speculating and coming up with ridiculous explanations).

This actually got me interested in where exactly this server is even located. Coincidentally (or maybe not ) it seems to be fairly close to the alltunes.com server.
