The solution as I see it - 07-06-2007, 12:26 AM

They should reopen but this time really be legal and pay the royalties to the Russian equivalent of the Performing Rights Society.

This way the artists (and record companies) really would get the money. The prices would be higher of course but still far more competitive than the ones we have to pay, and with it now being actually legal in Russia I see no reason why Russian authorities should force them to shut down.

Of course we, as users, should be offered the same as before - i.e. choice of bitrates and no DRM.

Other sites (napster, kazaa) that previously dealt with illegal file-sharing later went legal so why not this one?

Hello Earl Purple and Welcome,

Ideally I believe you are correct, but the RIAA does not want money from Mp3sparks or their artists.. They do not want the fierce competition that Mp3sparks offers..
Thats why they proceed like the bullies they are..and can not change
because they are blinded by there own greed..this is based on their
past poor behavior and total disregard for their customer base.
I also wish things were different and everybody would talk and things would
be better..but I don't believe at this time ,this is a realistic option.
But you never know what the future might hold..lets hope only good
things for us all.
Welcome,
Night fly

Under your definition they are legal right now. Any part of them which has been shut down was shut down through "pressure" not legal action. They DO pay royalties and they are legal under current Russian law. If nobody from the western music industry wants to claim their royalties, that isn't their problem.
