I don't really drive much. (No need to in NY.) I do remember a friend having one of those units that allow you to plug in your iPod into the cigarette lightter and play through the car speaker system. I think you cannot charge your ipod through that. I remember us running out of battery during a long drive.

Hi lilkat,
Once the car has given it enough power to boot it up, it will play. This happened to me a couple of days ago,
Cheers,

Hello,

Thanks for the useful tips on recovering crashed pods. I've spent days trying to restore my player after it lost all the music on it. Haven't had much sucess as every time I reloaded the songs the thing crashed again losing all data and leaving me back at square one. Strangely I left it alone for a week and am now able to load without any problems. Maybe it just needed a rest. I will check the web to see if I can understand what happened.

There are many ways to transfer music from an ipod back to your computer. I use an application called iPodRip from www.thelittleapplefactory.com though this may ony work with macs.

cheers
Mark

There are tons of applications out there for transferring the music back. Som even preserve your playlists. But if your goal is to just get it all back quickly, you simply need to dig up that hidden ipod_control folder. If you aren't using the special soft, you'll notice that file names are all scrambled, so you can't tell what the song is actually until you load it back into itunes. However, all the tags are preserved, so if you load it back to iTunes, and you have "Keep itunes folder organized" and "Copy files to itunes music folder when adding to library" ticked in your preferences like I do - Itunes will re-shuffle all the songs again into their proper folder structure.
