Headphones - 10-17-2007, 09:15 PM

I've been very happy with the headphones that came with my iPod and especially the ones that came with my SanDisk (I put the little foam caps on them). However, yesterday my husband bought me the V-Moda headphones at Costco. These are the kind that go inside the ears. I'd tried this kind before and found the sound a little tinny and didn't like them. These were pretty expensive so I'm trying to be sure before deciding whether to keep them. At first I thought they were tinny also, but now I'm thinking that although the sound at first doesn't seem as full, the real difference is that there is more bass, and therefore a deeper sound. I'm not that knowledgeable on all this, so I was wondering if there are any others out there with either these particular headphones or others like them and what they think. Thanks.

OK, I checked and I also have Sony Fontopia EX71 white - I got them from Amazon for $25 a while ago. The questions I have are:

1) Does anyone have V-Moda headphones or know anything about them?
2) Are they worth $75 if I already have the Sony?
3) Are they really better than what comes with SanDisk?

They sounded better than the Sony. Thanks.

I have never tried the Sony EX71, but when I was buying my last set of headphones I did loads of searching reviews, and the EX71s performed pretty badly

I tried a set of these when I got my headphones and I thought they sounded okay, but from what I remember, I did not like the fit (and I much prefer the in-ear headphone types) and they felt a bit 'flimsy'. Also I thought that you got quite a bit of the 'reveberation' sound from your footsteps (although I know that you do get use to that as I had this problem with my old headphones).

Only you can answer that. I spent a stupid amount of money on my headphones, but I think they are worth it as I use them all the time.

I would be amazed if they are not, but you can easily test this out can't you .

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I was reading some user reviews and it seems the headphones work better if you "burn" them for 24 hours - it improves the balance. So I'm going to try that, and try out the different sizes of the earbuds, and then make my decision. By the way, these are V-Moda Vibes, the newest model.

Good luck!

Knowing myself I'll not pay a cent over the 25-30 bucks I did for my Sony Fontopias. Headphones seem to spontaneously combust inside my purse. I really don't treat them nicely at all, so blow through pair after pair like a hurricane - and the Sony's lasted the longest thus far. Of all the expensive things I treat myself to - headphones are not on that list.

Thumbs up hello and good day i-pod fan - 10-18-2007, 02:05 AM

i have experminted with many types of different headphones. i use my i-pod outside most of the time. i wanted pairt of noise-canceling earphones. i tired a bunch of different ones. the best pair i found was the etymotic reasarch er-4. these are hands down the best pair of phones that i have used. they are a bit spendy but to me well woth the hefty price tage. here is a link to there site.

Etymotic Research, Inc. - High-fidelity Earphones and Hearing Instrumentation

they also have a pair that is noise-canceling and they work great for a cheaper price. i actually broke my er-4's a while back and was waiting for them to get repaired. i picked up a pair of shures for around a 100 bucks and they are also great. here is a link to there web site.

Shure - Earphones

here is a link to a great website that gives info on earphones and may help you in your search to what you are looking for.

HeadRoom - Right Between Your Ears

oh, and by the way if you think i-pod earphones are good then your in for a real treat if you buy one of these type of noise-canceling earphones. i-buds are basicaly garbage. i hope this helps and thanks for the post.

Thanks, Shadman. I'll check all of these out. Meanwhile I've been having a great afternoon listening to Michel Legrand/Stephane Grappelli and now Jessye Norman/Michel Legrand with these new headphones.

I've been using a pair of Etymotic Reasearch ER6i's for over two years now and love 'em for all the reasons touted by Shadman above. You can find them for less than $80.

I also had excellent customer service after a left channel became intermittent. The phones were two years old and they sent me a brand new set free of charge.
