Sirius adds XM DeepTracks channel - 11-14-2008, 07:49 PM

As of 11/12 Sirius Sat. radio has added the popular DeepTracks XM radio show , replacing the inferior "The Vault" at Sirius channel 16. DeepTracks with Earle Bailey is one of my favorite shows for exposing classic but forgotten music, plus Dylan and Tom Petty are reg. DJ's every week, and they come up with some great stuff too.

Being both an XM (6 yrs) and Sirius subscriber (2 yr), it's nice to see that they are making changes to get to a single better satellite radio model. It's another luxury to get like Tivo, but it is fabulous to have that kind of selection in the car/auto/truck and never lose the signal.

There is a lot of good programming being done over there. At the present time
I can't afford the monthly subscription but aol radio has many of the XM
stations for free(some of the cooler ones of course are not available).

Hopefully when my situation changes, this is something I would definitely
be interested in.I have many of the Dylan shows from one of the Russian sites.
He has a great show with every week a different theme.

Thanks for the post.......

Hi Kaeli

I thought satellite radio needed a directional aerial. How does that work in a car? Or am I just behind the times?

Hi Kaeli,

Are you saying you can get satellite radio on the move? That sounds interesting to say the least. We get sat radio here in the UK but only at a fixed location.

We do have a digital radio network but from what I have heard it's not that good on the move.

Hi GM -

The antennae / mini-dish for the satellite receiver is the size of matchbook cover, about 1/8 inch thick. It is a magnet bottom, so it easily attach to the roof. Hence a connection at all times, except when tunnels or anything obstructing the roof of the vehicle..

The last I heard you can get a 50 station 24/7 package for $8/month...most receivers can be used in home & car, making it totally portable. No sales pitch, but I NEVER listen to FM radio broadcasts anymore! Switching Blues to Punk never easier!

That sounds fantastic but I am pretty certain that we do not have anything like that in the UK, I have not heard anything about it if it does exist.

I think we are all behind the times here GM.

Hi Ashleyj & Kaeli

Actually England is just inside the coverage area of the Worldspace Afristar radio satellite - which I only know about because they carry Radio Caroline Last I heard, the radios came with a little dish to stick to your window. But it seems things are changing: http://www.worldspace.com/maintenance/index.html
