Yes, it supports wma, mp3, m4a for audio, and mp4, mov and wmv for video. Your wma's should be fine as long as they don't have DRM - if they do, then you'd need to strip them using fairuse4wm.

I thought that only ipods played m4a format (this is AAC isn't it?). I hope that you are right here as although I do not have any issues with my ipod at the moment, I have always regretted converting all of my music to AAC format as I assumed that meant I was stuck with ipods forever. If this is not the case I might look at the alternatives next time I need a new mp3 (AAC) player (hopefully not for a while as I am broke),
Cheers,
Dave C

Thanks again Mell...
I have always been drm-free...lol..and always will be..I bought only
2 drms in my life and then went crazy because they wouldn't play anywhere...and here I am today...

But sometimes my less enlightened family members send me infected files that
would other wise be good....I forgot about fairuse4wm...it was discussed
here a long while ago...I was sent some recently..ecch..but they are such
lovely people..they meant well...lol..

and thanks for the link about Zune.

Hey Dave, no, Zunes can play and synch AAC files, again as long as they're not DRM'd e.g. Itunes music store purchased. It's a pain you've ripped them as AACs, as they're an Apple format which inevitably ties you to Apple products. I always rip as mp3 so that I can use any mp3 player I like. Out of interest, do you buy your music now (e.g. from allofmp3) as AAC or mp3?

Nightfly - I agree, it's ridiculous. I bought some music from Itunes a few years ago, but because they only allowed me to transfer my activations about 3 times, I lost all my Itunes music after several reformats.

Until very recently (like since Christmas) I always downloaded stuff off mp3sparks as mpeg-4 (audiophile). More recently I have been using mp3 256 vbr. Don't think I can tell any difference in the quality (did test it out with one of my fav. tracks) and it is a bit cheaper so I thought it was about time I stopped making more problems for myself. I very rarely use itunes to download music (just a couple of albums which I have been desperate for), but I do have a few music videos so these will be dmr'ed I guess,
Cheers,
Dave C

If all your music is DRM free you can convert it to MP3 format and it will work fine with your IPod. If some of your stuff is protected AAC and you are still using Itunes 7.5 you can use MyFairTunes to strip the DRM and convert it to MP3 as well.

Oh, and I have 2 Ipods an 8 gig Nano and an 80 gig video.
I like them both fine.

Hi A,
I have thought about converting them to mp3, but I have got ~900 AAC albums (all free of DRM) and do not think I could stand converting them all individually. I think someone might have already answered this question for me, but is there a program which could do the whole lot in a single run (retaining track names & album artwork) with out making the sound quality any worse (big ask I know),
Cheers,
Dave C

Here's the secret to getting the lowest bit rate with the highest apparent quality.

Completely damage your hearing for decades so that by the time mp3 (or whatever) is the dominant format 128kbs is all you really needs since your battered cochlea can't tell the difference any way.

It's worked for me! Think of all the memory I'm saving. Well computer memory since my damaged cortex is another story (where is the section here on the dangers of alcohol?).

FWIW I have an iPod because I'm completely unoriginal.

Meridian,

Many years of being in front of loud Amps(being a musician and teacher) and alcohol have done the trick for me as well...It's all good to me...lol...

(for the record I have not drank in years except for very occasional wine)

I did some looking around and worked out the best price:storage ratio and ended up with a Creative Zen 60GB from eBay/HK somewhere... as far as a strict mp3 player goes it's ok, low on features and has a few quirks. But I was expecting that, it is Creative after all...
