Download speeds - 10-24-2007, 12:35 AM

Hey guys, I stumbled onto this forum about a month ago and signed up with MP3fiesta because of the price, but has anyone noticed consistently slow downloads? I'm in the Central Plains of America(around Chicago, IL) and I consistently get only around 100KB/s with no more than 2 downloads allowed at a time on a 20mb/s download connection.

What's everyone else's speed and is this about normal?

I had the same problem, but I downloaded FlashGet for free and (once I got the hang of the program) can download as many as I want at once and all relatively quickly.

I agree Flashget is a excellent downloading app.I use it even when
a site has a downloader...I find I get faster downloads with it..
As you said once you get used to it...it is fast and easy to use.

Here's the Link:

No kidding: slow downloads!!!

I switched to mp3fiesta after mp3sparks no longer accepted Visa cards. Fiesta seemed to have a similar set up to sparks and I felt it would be a good alternative to my favourite mp3 site. But the similarity stops when it comes to download speeds! Can you say SLOW!?

I purchased an album and started by downloading five songs at a time, which is usually how I did things on sparks. The downloads did start but about half way they came to a grinding halt. So I thought, 'Ok, let's just try one at a time'. Oh yeah, now we're stuck at 35%. ONE song...stopped loading at 35%! C'mon guys, surely you can do better than that!

Who has the time to download a song this way, let alone an album!?

You've got my $20 and I don't think I'm going to be able to get any music in return.

Try a download program you suggest. Well I did download 'FlashGet'...and it could take me the rest of the day to figure out how to make it work. Its my one day off, I can't spend it all in front of my computer trying to 14 mp3's.

Tell me there's got to be a better way!

These are only suggestions..

Have you written Mp3fiesta assistance for help or ideas.

Have you cleaned out your cache (temp Internet files) sometimes
this can slow down your downloading speeds.

Maybe some one from Mp3fiesta will come along and give you a answer.

Please be patient and this will be worked out...

...good idea about cleaning out the cache...I'll go do that now.

and, yes, I have sent an email to the contact at fiesta explaining this and asking for any suggestions they might have or how I might get a refund if I am unable to download music from the fiesta site.

BTW, I am running windows XP, havea big hard drive, lots of memory and have high speed internet connection. Normally downloads off the net are a breeze.

Patti,

If that doesn't work ..I'll give you a quick run down on
Flashget...I even use it on Mp3sparks as well ,rather than going to
Alltunes, because Flashget works outside the browser downloading 3
files at a time very, very fast.
But you must take your songs and make your own folder..no big deal.

Good luck with cache cleaning..

I stumbled through that first album download a few days ago, after cleaning out my temp files (thanks Nightfly). And then decided to try download another album tonight. What a contrast! Fast and smooth now! Very impressive in fact.

Did the fix something or has my luck just changed!

Hi Patti,

Glad that worked, it was your cache..I find that when I get unusually
slow downloads from sites that are usually pretty good, I always
clear my cache to see if that works..A great deal of the time it does.

But sometimes there could be a geat deal of contention on a site , it will
slow the download speeds. And sometimes coming back a hour
later you will find there are less people on ther server and your downloads will be faster.

Take care,

Nightfly

thanks Nightfly; I'll try be a bit more patient next time and, as you suggested, just maybe come back a little later if things are slow at first.

cheers
