I really do prefer the real deal! The one and only. The original. The best.

so what do you think about it after some listening? I´m on the 2 nd run and not quiet sure about. I think it takes some time to realize the whole thing. maybe I´m inspired in a week or so.

Don't worry, Dave. We speak a different language in the off-hours. It's not meant for everyone.

P.S. I didn't like the Portishead album at all. Not my cup of tea. Don't get that type of music.

The same to me. I still do not get what Radiohead and Portishead tried to say with their new albums. Their old releases are much better and still refresh some warm memories of the 90th...

I find Portishead's 'Third' paradoxically addictive. There's quite a diverse range of sounds and styles on there; admittedly, it's unusual and might at times appear on the surface to be a dirge, but Portishead are at least trying to push the envelope and on about 80% of the album, I think they succeed. There are some wonderfully melodic moments lurking just beneath the surface and part of the enhanced listening experience is discovering these.

When the album falls down, it falls down spectacularly and this tends to be where the whispy, breathy vocals of Beth Gibbons sings a totally different melody to that of the band; banal verging on discordant.

However, that's a minor gripe amidst a heady mix of Prog Rock, ambient, electronica, Post Rock, minimalism and New Age. It works for me.
