Raz Ohara and the Odd Orchestra - 02-12-2008, 07:10 AM

Browsing the new releases on Alltunes I came across an album by the (obviously Danish) Raz Ohara and the Odd Orchestra.
I'm not much into electronic music but this held my attention and I listened to most of it and will look for it at other stores to DL (I'm pretty sure he is in the eMusic catalogue). Very atmospheric and laid back - smooth electro/pop/indie/soul sort of style. Worth a listen if you are looking for something a little bit different to Mika

Why would anyone be looking for something different to Mika .
Will give Raz Ohara & The Odd Orchestra a try, sounds like the kind of thing I might like. emusic do have the album, and just out of interest for 4ziggy, a reviewers says fans of Zero 7 might like it.
Cheers,
Dave C

I thought Mika had become something of a benchmark on this forum

BTW, I know you are partial to female singers (in a musical appreciation sense) and might like to check out Oz girl, Tina Arena's new album. Like her last couple of releases, all the songs are sung in french but it is very listenable whether you are a francophile or not. Another great album for the car

I'm not a big fan of Tina Arena's style of music (bit to poppy with background figure clicking & other annoying stuff). Not heard any of her newer stuff, I will check it out but am doubtful. I much prefer the Aussie Sia (more Zero 7 connections). Her new album 'Some People Have Real Problems' is excellent, even if it got a bit of a panning by the critics.
Cheers,
Dave C
NB. Got Raz Ohara And The Odd Orchestra and it is a good one

I agree, her late 90's albums were very 'girl pop'. However, the more recent stuff is much more sophisticated and extremely well produced.
I have never heard of Sia (I will ask my second-born) but will check her out at the first opportunity. I don't take much notice of music critics. They even hated Tchaikovsly's violin concerto (one said it gave off a bad smell). As a certain Russian/American Princess on this forum will corroborate, it is arguably the greatest concerto ever written.
