BB King-One Kind Favor ---2008

BB Kings new album is a winner. He has stepped out of his
formula made standard albums and has given us something fresh.
Not easy to do at 82.With the help of popular producer T.Bone Burnett
(who recently did the Robert Plant and Allison Krause album "Raising Sand)
has created a sound board of tunes that reflects BB's mortality, his
passion for the blues and not one song has he done before, which is
usually the case for BB.
It has a New Orleans flare as well, that is because
of Dr.Johns Playing through out, along with drummer Jim Keltner and bassist
Nathan East. The production has somewhat of a modern sound that's
inherit to T.B.Burnett's sound, but the playing is traditional in every sense of the word.
If you have any interest in the Blues,New Orleans Jazz or R&B
I recommend this one highly.

I would like to thank Sir Hirs.Ute for initially posting about this album,
and turning me on to it....

Sir Fly, a great review of the album from one who probably knows the Blues better than anyone else.
I listened to the album extensively during the past week and I think it will go down as one of BBK's finest albums.
Still a little bit worried about some of the track titles though

which one, hirs ute? i had thought the combination of 'Sitting On The
Top Of The World
' right into 'The World Gone Wrong' rather smart.

but the music as such, unbelievable.

You're quite right Henry those are positive and inspirational track titles

The ones that worried me were:
See That My Grave Is Kept Clean, I Get So Weary, Get the Blues Off Me, How Many More Years and I wait for your call
But then:
a) I'm probably focussing on the negative rather than the positive in the track titles
and
b) The man is probably being simply realistic and that at 82 he realises he isn't going to keep going for ever

I think that you are both right that BB starts the album off and lets us know whats on his mind like any great Artist should do with those 5 songs about ones mortality, but then he reminds us of who he really is, a uplifting, joyous man that represents the Blues in a major way.......

Don't think I'll be singing or playing electric blues at 82. Dribbling in a care home maybe playing The Blues I think not
