Ben Smith Band - 12-01-2008, 08:51 PM

I have just come across this band whilst browsing the sites.

They are listed under Blues but I have not heard of them before, has anyone else?

Previewed a few tracks on millisong but unfortunately they do not do full track previews but from what I heard they sound very good.

Sparks seems to be down at the moment so I can't get to listen to the full album at the moment.

Any info?

I am not sure but that might be Jazz/blues.I'd have to hear it myself,
but I believe there is a old time Jazz guy named Ben smith that is still alive
OR it could be a new guy with a very common name.

I think it's more likely a new guy.
From what I have found out he was born in Scotland, moved to Australia and then came back to the UK.

From the little I have heard it is quite soft and melodic, he reminds me of someone else but I can't think who.

Anyway I took the plunge and downloaded it from Millisong so I will let you know more when I have had a chance to listen to it.

I have not found him on the other sites, and I don't do Millisong.

But I will keep looking.

I was thinking of Ben Webster who has long been gone and was a jazz
guy..sorry about that.

Found Ben Smith and The Ben Smith Band(on eMusic) and they are definitely
not Blues..They are a folk rock(and I use the term lightly) with
no edge.A far cry from the Blues.I shall not be checking anything
by them out when I can't even get through the samples.

You are right Nightfly there is definitely no sign of any blues in it at all. I can't understand why Millisong listed them under that genre, and unfortunately as you can only listen to a small bit of each track it was difficult to asses whether this was so.

Anyway it's another for the collection that I may or may not listen to again sometime. After I had listened to the first track in full I concluded it would not be to your taste.

Still you live and you learn - never trust Millisong's category listing.
