Great new cd - 06-18-2007, 07:32 AM

Just wanted to let everyone know that a fabulous new CD was just added to aom3's catalogue. I've been waiting for it for a long time. This CD is either very hard to find or costs $30. It's Lush Life by Roberta Gambarini and it was released only in Japan. If you're into jazz and want to hear a fabulous jazz vocalist who's been compared to Ella Fitzgerald, go try her out. Her earlier CD, Easy To Love, is also available on aom3 and is one of the best I've ever heard.

Hi ipodfan,
I've downloaded a couple of Ella Fitzgerald albums over the past couple of weeks (which i have really liked), so I shall give this one a go. Thanks for the tip,
Cheers,
Dave C

Hey Dave and Ipodfan ..Ella is my favorite female singer...she can sing anything ..I'd like to recommend her duets with Louis Armstrong..really
charming and great jazz..and Ipodfan ..I will look for that CD download
and let you know what I think...sounds very promising

Take care,
Nightfly

I must say I was skeptical..how can any one sound like Ella?
Well Roberta Gambarini has a beautiful voice and she has a
tone and texture similar to Ella's and as a bonus to me, she's
accompanied on piano by the the great Hank Jones, brother
to the great drummer Elvin Jones..Hank played with Charlie Parker,
Lester Young and actually was Ella's accompanist on record and the road.
So this is a really well put together project..with great jazz standard selections
That feature Roberta's exquisite voice..and though this is secondary, by her
album covers she is a incredibly beautiful women who's voice match's her
beauty...and ipodfan if you did not recommend this CD it would just be
another CD lost to everyone..and this is what this site is all about..
sharing new ideas in music...
Thanks,
Night fly

Hi ipodfan,
I was of course going to start telling you about the drummer and pianist; but Nightfly beat me to it (believe that & you'll believe anything). I have given the album a couple of listens though and I like what I hear. This is a style of music which I am not that familiar with, but she has got a great voice. For some reason a few of the track remind me of early Norah Jones (although I have no idea why this should be as her voice and the music is very different). Will be checking out her other album,
Cheers,
Dave C

Dave.... after listening to the Ella albums you downloaded do you think

equal talent check out Sarah Vaughn..she is wonderful and sultry..

I'm with you on Sarah Vaughan - 07-19-2007, 04:44 AM

I'd say she's much more jazz oriented than Ella. I like - no - I love Ella but sometimes she gets a little too rinky-dink for me. Sarah Vaughan - particularly her recordings with Oscar Peterson trio.

Thanks for the recommendation - a shame I can't access aomp3 now. Can download from

Anyone know any other sites that are good for jazz and jazz funk?

Hello Dorisbonkers... I know what you're saying about Ella I am not a fan
of her early pop ..I like the small combo stuff..I thought she was her
best when she was in her 50's and 60's...impecable phrasing..W/ Herb Ellis
and her husband Ray Brown
Sarah as well was best in middle age(well I think she was great at all ages) ..We both forgot about Billie Holiday..I love her late
stuff on Verve when she was strung out..could make you cry..ever see
video of late period performance of My Man..amazing..
I used to go to MP3stor but they have been a little shaky lately..but a
really good deep Jazz catalog... Emusic has fantastic back catalog of Prestige
Concord and also great import Indie classic releases of Monk and other
great bop period artists many great live Live material from 60's France..
from various great artists looking for a living like Chet Baker...
SoundsBox.com .. a new site on the block, has just got Fantastic new arrivals
of Jazz..some pretty rare stuff..Some old bop like P.Chambers featuring
a young John Coltrane..1956..Keith Jarrett.extc..and not just the "popular"
titles some stuff I never seen before because sometimes, it is a period of
their career that is not normally featured ..but these Artists still had the chops..also Mp3Fiesta has a Ok Jazz collection but not so deep..
I hope you can get into mp3sparks soon they have a great catalog as you know...go to the Login Problem thread they have some great people working
there who I'm sure can help you out..

Take care and if you have any recommends let me know..

Nightfly
