Help Please - Portuguese Fado - 08-07-2007, 02:09 PM

Hi

I was watching a TV cooking programme - and part of the show was in a Portuguese Fado Bar - Fado was described as portuguese blues.

Has anybody else come across it ? - Do you have any suggestions where i can begin my odyssey and listen to some more of this moving music?

Many thanks

Elf

Cheers Nightfly - i am not much of a bluesman but the singer on the prog was stunning and her song was heartwrenching - even if it was in portuguese, of which I speak not a word !!

Fado Singers - 08-08-2007, 09:16 AM

Hi Elfcall

Leaving in Spain, and being portuguese people neighbour, I think I can recommend some fado artist, but I have to recognise that I'm not an expert. You can try these artists: Cesaria Evora, Dulce Pontes & Misia. You'll find in sparks. They had great voices (as all the fado singers). I also recommend a group called Madredeus.

But I didn't describe it as blues, I'd say is folk music and it's very easy to merge with jazz.

Hope you like it!

Kalvin

Vick..Yes I do..right now I am home on disability and don't work much..
so I do have the time and desire..and most of my knowledge has been obtained over the years from my musician, producer, engineer close friends and young relatives we get together for lunch and exchange music and ideas..
and now I have you guys..who have expanded my horizons past
NY into more of Global sense..which has broadened me greatly...
When I say I listen to every thing I mean it....at least once..
then we'll see about seconds..If it draws a spark from me..
You too lately, as a more worldly person than I ,have turned me on to
some new music as well....thank you

Nightfly
