The Wolf.. - 05-28-2007, 07:33 PM

Lately I've been listening alot to Howlin Wolf one of my favorites blues singer harp players and sometimes slide players, he's always raw and powerful and he could rock the house playing the Jukejoints through the South of the US.
These are my recommends or what I recently downloaded:

Howlin Wolf Sings The Blues...This has some rare stuff that I never seen before ...right after he left Chess he recorded for Modern 51-52 for a year..These are those tracks with a rocking band, with natural sustain coming from his guitar player,a boogie woogie piano player,The Wolfs screamin raw vocals ,one listen and you can tell rock and roll was eminent. Allofmp3 and has this one

Howlin Wolf London Sessions: With a band Like Eric Clapton,Bill Wyman,
Charlie Watts and Steve Windwood in there prime 1972 ..How can you go wrong..The Wolf is in great form despite his declining years and health..and
this too is a rocking blues record..not all superstar records work out..
But this is the best of those kind of hookups.. get it at.. allofmp3 mp3stor

Live And Cookin at Alice's Revisted: Great Live album Wolf made before he
passed 1972 with a great traditional bar blues band..very soulful and rocking
get this one at Mp3stor

If you have any interest in finding out more about Howlin Wolf both allofmp3
and mp3stor have many compilations for you to check out and explore.

Wolf At Sun ...Wolf recorded at the begining of his career at Sun Records these are classic blues recordings that every blues fan should give a listen to. ..at Emusic only

Excellent post Nightfly, exactly what these sections were set up for. This is a branch of music which I have never tried. The closest I have come is watchiing the film 'the blues brother', which I am sure is a million miles away from the stuff you have described here. I will definately being getting a couple of these albums tonight and will get back to you in a week or two with what I think,
Cheers,
Dave C

I second that, excellent post. Did some research on Howlin Wolf and his style of music connects with my tastes.

Listening to Howlin Wolf - The Wolf Is At Your Door, very nice and relaxed.

Both mp3fiesta, legalsounds and gomusic have albums that the other one doesn't.

I shall be downloading a couple of albums to hear some more. Thanks for the recommendation.

Other notable Howlin Wolf tracks - Evil, How Many More Times and Sittin On Top Of The World.

Also, in later years, artists such as Captain Beefheart obviously took heed of the Wolf's unique vocal style!

Just because you buy a new house doesn't mean your car should stop working. Right?
