Talking Alison Balsom - great set of lungs - 11-15-2008, 12:07 AM

Now I have your attention let me hasten to say that I meant that literally and not in the manner that brought you speedily to this thread .

Alison is a young British trumpet player of outstanding ability. She has two albums on Sparks and it is the one recently added that motivates me to give her a plug here. The CD consists of four trumpet concertos by Hayden, Hummel, Neruda and Torelli. Two were familiar and the others a delightful discovery. Highly recommended

The other CD on Sparks has a variety of short transcriptions and also worth a listen as the various pieces showcase her virtuosity with this difficult instrument.

Cheers,

Squash

I trust this date will be in the presence of a computer that will give a running commentary of the 'event'. I might even be awake at the time watching the rugby test between Oz and the old enemy

Have a great night.

Cheers,

Squash

I got both albums after hearing your first recommend. She's amazing.
How clean and fluid she plays and so melodic.I think the arrangements
are little heavy handed for Baroque but I all and all, enjoyed the end results
with the playing. On the Bach album there is a interesting piece of Vivaldi's
that starts with a Organ and Trumpet.

Very nice music for a rainy Sat.Afternoon..Thanks so much for this
excellent recommend..

Cheers,

Nightfly

Hi Nightfly, glad you liked them.

Brass playing is something of a tradition in our family - probably due to Welsh mining heritage and the brass band thing that goes with that particular territory. Actually have a couple of cousins that play trumpet and tuba in top orchestras. I have a lot of stuff by the great Maurice Andre and I will be looking for more from the talented Alison Balsom.

Cheers,

Squash

great signature, squash54, like it. had seen it, very similar, somewhere
before, and am debating with myself which is the more apt version.

(Un)fortunately squash there was not a computer in sight - I am a true gentleman who would never kiss and tell!

Seriously though we had a great day - nine hours and I think the only time we stopped talking was to drink beer - now that's what you call a date!

Yep, I'm pretty sure we would have been spotted on a quite few Henry.
