I have to confess I have not seen the movie but I believe she did nearly all of the female vocals on the soundtrack except, of course, the Celine Dion mega-hit 'My Heart Will Go On'.

Thanks for recommends. I listened to and purchased both Sophie and Maxim over the weekend. Sophie's material reminds me of Yo-Yo Ma's approach to the Cello.

You may already be familiar with the French violinist, Laurent Korcia, but, if not , I recommend his album 'Double Jeux'. I stumbled upon this recently whilst surfing the catalogue on AOM3. Two other favorite fiddlers of mine are Joshua Bell and Gil Shahan.

Joshua Bell is at the bottom of my list. Gil Shaham is great.

I'm still listening to David Oistrakh and Itzhak Perlman...
Edit: didn't want to leave out Issac Stern whom I cut my classical teeth on.

harsh words for young Mr.Bell... He is better live than his records
would have you believe... but he is not in the same league as the
above...

I've heard him live a couple of times, and not so much a fan of his style. Seems rather uninspired. Neither am I a fan of his repertoire. I know he's highly regarderded, but having been rased on classic violinists, such as the one you've named above, I'm not terribly inspired by Joshua Bell.

Heard Perlman in Lincoln Center very recently. Every recital of his is quite an adventure. It's amazing what presence one man can possess and what an amazing violinist. He played maybe 6-7 enchore pieces and the audience was still screaming for more. What a man!

P.S. I play violin myself - albeit, not so well!

Of the younger generation of violinists, I love Maxim Vengerov and Vadim Repin.

Probably not entirely impartial, since I'm Russian! Not a bad pick, anyway

Heh, great to see fellow people on here passionate about the violin (I play it too but probably worse than you!)

Am checking out the players above. Bell's ok but I prefer players that convey a lot of their character and emotion or do something different with their source material. Vengerov is my favourite violinist, though my favourite album of his isn't on Allofmp (Maximum Vengerov) - despite the bad pun title.

EXACTLY!!!!

Born and raised on violin music. Happy to discuss violinists as much as anyone wants.

Suggest you check out the DVD called "The Art of the Violin". I like it very much. Acquired it after seing the program on PBS a number of times.
