Thumbs up The Gulda Mozart Tapes II 6 Sonatas - 11-04-2007, 04:36 AM

New On Mp3sparks:

The Gulda Mozart Tapes II 6 Sonatas
by pianist Friedrich Gulda

These are beautiful renditions of 6 Mozart piano sonatas (solo pieces)
done with an exquisite interpretation by Gulda.

This recording is highly recommended.

I second that.
I have a lot of Gulda in my collection and regard him highly. He is better known now, 7 years after his death, than he ever was when he was alive. I hope more of his recordings are listed online.
BTW Amazon has a CD of him doing the Mozart Concertos 20 and 21 with Abbado and the Vienna Phil for less than 8 bucks. Highly recommended.
His Beethoven interpretations are also worth a listen if you ever come accross them.
I wonder what else DG have got up their sleave. Apparently these studio recording were made in 1981 and the tapes discovered in the estate of one of the recording engineers.;

Squash,

You were the one who turned me on to him..I love his playing.

Very free and emotes beautifully but still has very good structure
and tone.
Yes the sound is not perfect(but not bad either) but the performance is brilliant.Let's write Sparks and ask for more.
I will check out the 21 & 22 Mozart from Amazon sounds very promising with
Abbado and Vienna.

Good idea. The first CD of the Mozart tapes came out last year and I am sure anyone who DL's No. II will want No.I. I will also ask for some of his Beeethoven, which I consider his best work. I doubt they will put up the boxed set of the complete Sonatas, but there are couple of Decca recordings I will ask for, including one with Fournier on Cello.

Got this a few days ago and after a few listens think that it is my favourite 'classical' one so far. I'm surprised he never made it onto the classical top 10 album ,
Cheers,
Dave C

Dave,

You are the man...I really admire your music diversity and your openness to new music forms.
I personally appreciate all your help in me building my Independent taste in
Rock/Pop, because of you in my top 10 of the year I have 2 Indies along
with my Jazz/Blues - Classical and World.

The Shins- Wincing the Night Away ...my wife heard the song
" Phatom Limb" and thought it was new Brian Wilson ...quite a compliment

Okkervil River-The Stage Names ... downloaded on your recommend and kept
on playing it...can't tell you why ..but it's different and fresh for me.

If you like Mozart solo piano Mozart Complete Works Vol.6 - CD
Sonata 1-5 these are early Sonata's by Mozart ..I do not know
who plays on this one (it doesn't list it) but they are quite lovely.

I got these quite a while ago when I was in a Mozart mood.
Which is quite often.

Thanks,

Nightfly

The Shins are great. But I don't know how indie they are anymore. I think it's kinda trendy to like The Shins Everyone does! I have all their albums, but my favorite track is still "New Slang" that I heard for the first time in the movie "Garden State" and it blew me away.

Is that them...thats a great song...well the Shins are new to me
and technically they record for Sub Pop which makes them Indie..
The Hives are also on my top 10 ...they are also very popular
but all 3 of their albums are on Indie labels..
Their new album is great...some good basic Rock and Roll
with some 60's overtones
Their popularity is really great news ..I hope they made tons of dough
for those labels...
