I agree that French Baroque is very cool, and Lully is probably the king of French Baroque. You should also check out Charpentier and Rameau. Charpentier is actually in some respects better than Lully. Musica Anitiqua Koln put out a Charpentier album about three years back on the Archiv label that is absolutely amazing.

Jordi Savaal and his Hesperion XXI ensemble also have some truly marvelous French baroque recordings available. They produced out a soundtrack for a movie called "Tous Les Matins Du Monde" that is really quite good. It's basically a miscellany of French baroque composers, including Lully. It's available on eMusic. You should check it out, as well as any other recordings available from his ensemble put out on the Alia Vox label!

Dan,

Thank you I love Musica Antiqua Koln they put out beautiful
recordings. Thanks for reminding me of Charpentier and Rameau
it's been years since I've owned a recording by them.
Thank you for the recommend on Jordi Savaal..I will be getting that
today on eMusic...any other recommends on eMusic of French
composers ?

I also heard that eMusic will soon be getting the fine Vox
recordings from the 50' and 60's.I own quite a bit of them
on CD and they are such great recordings as well as fine
performances from classic ensembles.

Edit:"Tous Les Matins Du Monde" is a quite beautiful soundtrack.
The musicianship and singing is exquisite..
Thanks so much for the find recommend.

Nightfly--

The most beautiful album of French baroque (imho) is...........

Les-Grandes-Eaux-Musicales-De-Versailles

The only downside to buying it on eMusic is the number of tracks (31); you'd be using a lot of points. A better solution is to buy it off iTunes, where it is also available, for the usual $9.99.

I believe track 7 on this album is a different performance of the piece "Le Retour" by Sainte-Coulomb that is on the "Tous Les Matins du Monde" soundtrack. It's the same piece but they don't sound quite the same, so it must be a different performance.

Incidentally, the reviewer on eMusic has it right, this is definitely ear-candy, but of a most exquisite kind!!

Dan,

Thanks..I will look for it on CD..maybe buy it used on Amazon.
I do not or ever have used iTunes because of their drm infected files.
I would not take it for free...honestly...lol..but that just me.

and your right 31 tracks is alot of download credits but I have plenty
and might consider it..it would only cost me a 6.82 (I get 90 DL's because
I've been with them awhile.)

If I find any other recordings of similar quality in my travels I will let you know.
Thanks again for the excellent recommend.
