Maxim Vengerov - 04-01-2008, 10:36 AM

Vengerov is arguably the best fiddle player alive.

I recently aquired his CD "Liebesleid, Liebesfreud" and it is simply breathtaking.

Enough said

Took advantage of the preview full album with this one at work today and it sounded pretty good. Will download it tomorrow and see if the higher bit rate makes it better. Thanks for the recommendation,
Cheers,

Definitely. He's my favourite violinist since I heard him at the British proms 10 years ago or so playing Waxman I like the album Maximum Vengerov

This is a beautifully produced album and justifiably won a Grammy in 2005.
I was given the CD but I would normally DL an album like this, which is just violin and piano, at 192 kbps. Even on my HI-FI rig I am hard pressed to tell the difference between a well recorded CD of a solo instrument and a 192k download of the same album. With more complex recordings (say Mahler's 5th) 320k is the way to go IMHO

Got it off Sparks at my favorite 256vbr...wonderful album..great program
and the playing is filled with emotion as well as technical expertise..
The sound is great to my ears..

Spot on, Nightfly. The other album on sparks is also very good, but not the 'show stopper' reviewed here.

There are some very interesting and entertaining clips of Vengerov on uTube that the "off topic" Princess drew to my attention a while ago.

All the best,

Squash

The album I mentioned above, Maximum Vengerov, seems to have had a name change actually (perhaps the punny title was deemed too much). I have it on CD and cassette as Maximum Vengerov but in my mp3 library it's called "The Road I Travel", which appears to be the title it's under at Amazon too. Really worth tracking down!
