Sonatas Transcribed For 10-String Guitar-Narsico Yepes

I recently downloaded this album from Mp3sparks.
Scarlatti is a barouque composer who composed
mostly beautiful piano sonatas. On this album
some of his piano sonatas are transcribed into music
for the 10 string guitar.I have never heard of a 10
string guitar myself but I will do some investigation
into the format of this instrument.

Narsico Yepes is a fine guitarist and this is a beautiful
recording. This recording is from 1990 and I'm surprized
that I missed this one.Times like this I am reminded of
the value of Mp3sparks,access to beautiful recordings like this one.

Also on Mp3Sparks new arrivals Andres Segovia-1950s American Recordings
Vol 1 and 2. These are classic recordings of Segovia in his prime,
though mature in years. The remastered sound on these are beautiful,
compared to my vinyl copies of these recordings.Highly recommended.

Hi Nighfly,
just downloading the Scarlatti album now. Love the word 'barouque', but have no real idea what it means in terms of music (guess I will find out soon). I will get back to you with what I think in a couple of days.
On a slight aside, the preview feature on mp3sparks / alltunes is not working at the moment. Is this just for me or is preview down for other people as well,
Cheers,
Dave C

Dave,

I spelled barouque wrong it is Baroque and it describes the early
type of music specifically of the 17th century into the beginning
of the 18th century. And is defined by such composers as Bach,Vivaldi,
Handel,Teleman,Couperin,Scarlatti and others.

The preview is working very slow for me at this time.

No matter what you wrote (and I cut a pasted), Baroque is the word which I read . Liking what I am hearing so far,

Hi Nightfly,

I spotted the Segovia on Alltunes but passed over the Scarlatti. I will go back and check it out.

A bit of info about the modern 10 string guitar here:
Ten-string guitar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And a photo of Narsico Yepes and his 10 string here:

Squash,

Thanks for coming trough again..

He is brilliant. I've never seen anything like it.You can hear
the difference in his playing because he uses certain notes
to resonate longer while he plays a passage..Now I read
it's because of the instrument he invented.Check out this recording,
it now takes on a new life knowing some more about Narsico Yepes
and his 10 sting guitar.

Thanks again,

Nightfly

Now I understand it, the term Baroque just means a time period (bit like Solaris saying he likes 80s music). I thought it was going to mean a bit more than that; i.e a type of classical music, like modern music gets broken down into pop, folk, hip hop, etc. 160 years seems like a long time for a period of music to last, I mean 60s music only lasted for 10 years,
Cheers,
Dave C
Do you think I'll be an expert in classical music by the time I reach 50

You are right people use term "Classical Music" but Baroque is one of the periods under that banner than comes the Classical era Mozart,Haydn, that leads to the Romantic era like Beethoven than Post Romantic than Modern
like Stravinsky.
I am a big fan of the Baroque period and Classical period.
I like the concertos and sonatas from these periods..
I love the beautiful melodies that accompany them.

But I have expanded and enjoy it all now.

And my feeling is you will make it before 50 by what I see.....
