Five star recommendation for Slovakian composer Vladimir Godar's album "Mater" (available on Sparks/MM). Seven pieces for female voice, chorus and Baroque string orchestra played on original instruments.
Beautiful tranquil, meditative and relaxing music.

Squash,

Though the voices are quite beautiful and love the haunting melodies
on first listening it was a little to heavy for me, considering the original
baroque instruments. It is challenging music for me,so I must re-listen.
I remember years ago when I first head Arvo Part, I sort of liked it at first. Then became a really big fan of his works.

But another good thing that came out of this recommend is that on the same page as Mater, they had on the left side "people who bought this also bought"
they had 2 classic Leonard Cohen albums I wanted,
and also a Friedrich Gulda as a recommend (hmmm I wonder who also
bought that one.... )

ps. Hope you don't mind that I used my lazy cat Pumpkin as a avatar..I know
for sure that he's not good enough for your Russian Blue...but then, is there
any cat that is ? She sure is a beauty.

Like Arvo Part and Gorecki, you have to be in the right mood to really enjoy the music. I just find it extremely relaxing, particularly on my own and late at night (with a suitable nightcap, of course )

Pumpkin looks like he has character. As for Fleur, she would take Pumkin over the labrador any day. The avatar of her is a recent photo. Would you believe she is almost 20 years old. That's equivalent to 100 in human years. Also, she is just a foundling as she was the only survivor of her mother's first litter, who belonged to one of our neighbors. As a kitten she used to come into our back garden to play with my kids and, with our neighbor's blessing, just moved in.
I suppose, really, we were the foundlings

P.S. About 3 weeks ago I put a request in with MM for more Gulda and they said they would consider it but, so far, no luck. Maybe if I'm good Santa will leave some in my Xmas stocking

Squash

I put in a request for Gulda as well. Let's hope.
I really never got into Gorecki any recommends there.

Pumpkin is 18 and looks it ... So they are both seniors and they have that
in common. He loves our younger female cat(10yrs) but I'm afraid
his love is unrequited..she is very aloof to the old man.
Your older cat on the other hand looks great but then she has some pedigree, and pumpkin is a common alley cat and I think he stays alive to eat and drive me crazy.(He requires a lot of attention of late)And I wouldn't have it any other way...

There is a good version of Gorecki's 3rd on eMusic. The last two movements are particularly beautiful.

As the saying goes - 'Dogs have masters, cats have servants'

Did the new avatar bring about a renewed "chit-chatty" Nightfly, or is Pumpkin taking over ?

Glad you noticed Vik...

It's actually a little bit of both...

When ever I am in the Classical mode he goes on top of my
printer and watches me type and then falls asleep during
a Largo portion. And sometimes walks across my keyboard
to get some attention.
And when I snooze he takes over..
any bad posts
I have to blame on Pumpkin(I have to blame something)...but I admire his commitment...
So he is my muze....some muze...

So he has some taste in music if nothing else.

Back to the thread have you ever listened to Gorecki's.
If so can you also make a recommend..

Thanks,

Nightfly

Thanks,
Nightfly, your avatar re-ignites some very fond memories for me. In my teens my family used to have a ginger tom called Paddington. He was the most dog like cat you could ever hope to meet. The fact that he shared a home with a Labrador and a Jack Russell may have had something to do with it, but he didn't have any of the airs and graces one, so often, associates with a cat. He was quite simply my best mate and would, often, fall asleep draped round my neck as I watched TV. Even after nearly thirty years he's very sadly missed but, as I said, your avatar brings some very fine memories flooding back - thanks

Thanks,
Can I also blame Pumpkin for the fact that I don't know who Gorecki is, outside of the few mentions I've seen in this forum?
