I think they have a shot at the top 10.

I look forward to the list.

Thanks Squash

Edit:Hoping the Tchaikovsky rate higher this year

To replace the Tchaikovsky since it was 18th

I choose Beethoven's 5th Piano Concerto or Mozart's 20th Piano
2 more of my popular Favorites

and I know they would never pick Shostakovich Piano Concerto #1
also one of my favorites but didn't think it would make the list.

ps: I sent you a pm
Nighfly, I posted the link above. You can see for yourself. The list is totally off.

Bruch Violin #1 4th ?

Elgar's Piano in the top ten ?

over the beautiful Haydn Trumpet Concerto.

And Vivaldi's Winter from the Four seasons. (low rating)

And The Bradenbergs(Bach) are very popular .
I think maybe people always group them together
so they can't pick just one.(low rating)

Maybe I am going by popularity rather than content.
Beethoven's 5th Piano really is a magnificent work
and deserves # 1
And Rachnmaninov's Second Piano Concerto is my favorite(by Van Cliburn)
deserves #2
And I'll give them Beethoven's Violin Concerto (he only did one right?)
always coupled with the Tchaikovsky #3

but then the list goes south for me with Bruch.

Some of the top 20 are there but in weird order..
I know it's subjective but
As you said "who voted on this list"

Vik ,also how was the Opera the other night?

I am looking forward to Squash's list from Oz.

Thank you Squash for your starting post because I have been listening
to all the above mentioned Concerto's today and it's been
wonderful to be in Classical land.
Away for awhile from my usual contemporary listening of late.

I think this list is so off target, it's not even funny. I mean, I love Bruch's violin concerto, but it is the only violin concerto that ended up in the top 10 - thus beating Tchaikovsky's (yes, only one), Brahms, Mendelsohn, Sibellius. Noone that loves the violin would ever rate them like them. Tchaikovky's piano concerto is way down there at the bottom of the first 10 - which is, well, ridiculous.

Australia - straight to the banning thead!

I didn't go to see Aida last night I couldn't fall asleep most of the previous night, and just couldn't keep my eyes open! I gave the extra ticket to one of my friends.

The station's online forum is filled with similarly flabbergasted listeners, all coming from a different direction, prejudice wise.
Here is one example:

Dear ABC presenters,
I have been listening ardently to your wonderful Concerto Competition, but I am heart broken. My dear Brahms and his wonderful Violin Concerto at number 17. What were your listeners thinking? I was waiting to hear it played in the concert tomorrow night by one of your lovely violinists. I heard only the first movement on your radio this morning. I waited for the rest of his wonderful music. Ah, you have taken a piece of my heart!
I am interested in Australians, so happy you have classical music competitions and not only all those soccer fans that came to my country last year. But I hope you are not voting for a guitar concerto in the top five! It's nice, but compared to my wonderful Brahms!
Clara

There are even calls for the voting statistics to be made public. I wouldn't be surprised if the Mozart mob call for a Royal Commission. Before this they had a Classic 100 exclusively on Mozart - how could he possibly come in 6TH

The ABC has quite a large overseas audience so the banning thread for Oz alone might be a tad harsh.

I think we should add Tasmania as well

Vic posted a link to the full list of 100.
Looking at it, there are not many concertos on it that I would not want in my collection.
I like the fact that if you have a spare 30 minutes or so you can sit down, put the feet up, and listen to one of these perfect little musical packages.
Anyone with a developing interest in classical music could get a lot of use out of such a list.

Yes Squash despite any differences we might have with the list
this is all quality music which can enrich anybodies life
at any time and this list after all our complaints, is still
a good primer for those who want to expose themselves
to the Concerto format.
One that gives much joy to my life.

In my humble opinion, none of the violin concertos are even in the same league with Tchaikovsky's.
