Question Surprise finds in Pop part 2 - 06-08-2007, 12:02 AM

Okay, another very well known band which I was just not expecting to be up to much now-a-days is 'The Sparks'. Now I know they did a fantastic album back in 1974 (Kimono My House) which had their classic hit; 'This Town Aint Big Enough For The Both Of Us' on it (memorable TOTP performance). But since then they have had quite a few duff albums, and I lost interest in them a long time ago. That changed when I heard them being interview on Radio 2 several months ago and I went out and got their last two albums; 'Lil Beethoven' & 'Hello Young Lovers'. What a shock, two absolutely fabulous albums. Again, I am not going to reveiw these albums as I am rubbish at writing and will just put you off them, but if you want to know more, read this guys stuff: - www.adriandenning.co.uk/sparks.html (one is my favorite internet reviewer). I do highly recommend these two albums, along with Kimono My House, ofcourse,
Cheers,
Dave C

Yeah, they've lost their magic touch too soon. Didn't know Giorgio Moroder joined them in the 80's... this explains a LOT...

I'd recommend "Propaganda" and "Indiscreet" too... two real masterpieces!

Anyone who has not got it yet should check out the new sparks album; Exotic Creatures Of The Deep. Another excellent album by the OAPs of pop. Album can be found in glorious 320kbps at MILLISONG.com,

Jim Ford - 06-02-2008, 12:55 AM

Jim Ford's "The Sounds of Our Time". Can be found on Mp3va.com at 320. Never heard of this guy before and d/l the cd on a lark. Started listening to it this morning and my 1st response was: "Whoa....who IS this guy" There is a definite country-funk vibe going on and I'm amazed that he's so unknown.

It's a reissue of his "Harlan County" album from 1969 with rare singles and previously unreleased masters included. His music can be described as Country-Soul-Funk and Nick Lowe has said that Ford is one of his biggest influences.
