For my first (hopefully) meaningful post I thought I would start a thread that’s close to my heart. I think most real music fans like lists, and I'm no exception. Recently a few of my friends and I decided to produce a CD of our fave 20 tracks that really meant something to us for whatever reason and exchange them with each other. I thought I would share mine with you for comment, debate, or for any of you to post your own lists of fave tracks to introduce me and others to some interesting music to download.
Well, here’s my list in no particular order . . .
Motorhead - Ace of Spades (Guaranteed to get my foot tapping and head banging)
Pink Floyd - See Emily Play (Classic UK psychedelia from one of my fave groups of all time)
Joy Division - Atmosphere (The soundtrack to my youth in a drab UK during the 80s)
This Mortal Coil - Song to the Siren (My wedding and funeral song, simply beautiful)
Nick Drake - Northern Sky ( I only recently discovered Nick Drake but I’m totally hooked)
Neutral Milk Hotel - Holland, 1945 (A song about Anne Frank, it shouldn’t work, but it does)
Pixies - Debaser (Classic US indie based on a French surrealist film, honest )
Stereolab - French Disko (Clever clogs indie with vintage electronic keyboards)
Pulp - Babies (Typical wry humour and perviness from Jarvis Cocker)
Belle & Sebastian - Lazy Line Painter Jane (Fey indie popsters do Phil Spector wall of sound)
Jimi Hendrix - Crosstown Traffic (If Clapton is God what does that make Hendrix?)
Echo & the Bunny men - The Cutter (Classic 80s indie pop shenanigans)
The Human League - Being Boiled (The first single and very different to the later hits)
Beck - Devils Haircut (A great mish mash of indie, C&W, hip hop, etc, etc)
Sex Pistols - Anarchy in the UK (Turned music upside down even though Rotten did like prog rock)
Groundhogs - Cherry Red (A classic from little known 70s guitar great Tony McPhee)
David Bowie - Heroes (Bowie, Eno, Fripp and Visconti, what a combination)
New Order - Ceremony (How to come back from tragedy)
Nick Drake - Pink Moon (An absolute classic track guaranteed to bring a tear to my eye after a few drinks!)
Johnny Cash - Hurt (Brilliance from a man knowing he’s going to die soon)
If you find just one track that you’ve not heard and like I’ve done my job . . .
