Cool North Mississippi Allstars - 02-17-2008, 12:34 AM

Hirs,

I missed your recommend of North Mississippi Allstars-- Hernando...

They are a really great blues rock band..but this album does
not reflect their true quality of muscianship...Their guitarist
Luther Dickinson is one of the best slide players around..

Check out:

Shake Hands With Shorty
Phantom 51
Hill Country Revue..Live..(the best album ...really rocks and great guitar playing)

If you have trouble finding these let me know..
I know that they are on Emusic.

Hi Friends!

Yes, Nightfly, I recommended you to check Eels. But it doesn't matter who recommended them/him, Eels are/is again in this forum.

BTW, Hirs, the Sia's album "Some people have real problems" has become one of my favorites. She has an excellent voice.

You're right about Sia. I don't know why but when I first previewed a couple of track I wasn't impressed (could have just been the mood I was in at the time ), but a little later I thought 'what the hell' and bought it. I've played it countless times in the last month or so and each time I play it I enjoy it a little bit more

I don't know if you've listened to it, by Dave C's recommend of 'Alas I Can Not Swim' from Laura Marling is worth checking out too

Hirs, sounds like you had bought a BEST OF album for the Eels...smart Man. I had bought their albums over the years and found few jewels in the hay stack. I do like the EELS, but am with you in recommendation of this particular album.

Dave, I am not sure about over where you are, but Novacaine for the Soul was played extensively in the States around 1992-1993 timeframe. Some other music also on the radio at the time were 'Creep' by Radiohead, all of Nirvana's material at the time, and ironically enough...Novocaine from Beck. The early 90's were such a shocker in the rock/indie/alternative category.

Kalvin, Again I find myself in agreeance with your statement about SIA. To have feelings of discontent with her work is not to know her at all. I have LOVED SIA ever since I saw her play live with Zero 7 in early 2000's (2001,2002?). She has a very powerful voice that if she wants the emotion to be there, the audience is sucked in and balling their eyes out...I SAW IT. Usually she is very upbeat and fun entertainer. And I have noticed stateside that her music is an underground favorite...played on many indie movies, commercials, MTV shows, and even is the soundtrack for a new American TV show remake 'Wonderwoman'.

I have noticed with many people I work with that there is a mad rush to read the magazines and listen to new music at work and I am not sure why. It's like SPACE, we want to rush out there and conquer it, but people are still discovering what is here on EARTH...in the sea of music history. Point being, I appreciate all the recommends I have seen. And though I have not replied, there are some albums that I have tried that I love, and some that may take some adjustment before I love. Thanks everyone for your recommends.

Zig.

Hey Zig, yes, I stumbled across Eels 'Best Of' - 'Meet the Eels 196-2006 Volume 1' and just can't stop listening to it and as for Nirvana I find them brilliant but like 'unplugged' more than anything else. As for SIA I enjoy the album more with each listening.

So much music, so little time to explore it all

Hi Hirs

Personally I think it's a really strange thing that there aren't more people, who have heard of The Eels. I mean, they have been playing for 1,810 years and still people don't even recognize their name
