Hi Dave C,
now I do understand.
We are lucky that during the last couple of years many "indie" bands have emerged. Following the death of britpop, the only option was to keep listening to stuff created the last decade (and possibly expand our tastes to the music styles that influenced indie music) but now there are so many options (an so little time).
Therefore, as the intention of the thread is to post indie groups that people might have missed, I would like to recommend the following:
Franz Ferdinand - when I first heard them, I felt this incredible feeling of hearing something new (then I heard Gang of Four and everything was in place again...)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - how Debbie Harry would have sound today
Cansei de Ser Sexy - extremely refreshing Brazilian indie/dance/rock band.
The Pipettes (my guilty pleasure; but who said that we should not have fun) - listening to Tamla with contemporary lyrics...
The Dears - I only came across them last year and as a Smiths fun I immediately fell for them.
Ta!

Hi tzafir,
Good selection of stuff . I have no idea where I got on to them (probably last.fm) but I downloaded The Pipettes album a couple of weeks ago and really like it. Not really given Franz Ferdinand a go yet and I have thought about the Yeah Yeah Yeahs a couple of times, but have been put off by a review describing them as 'a bad imitation of the White Stripes and the Strokes' . Never heard of Cansei de Ser Sexy or The Dearest but like the sound of them so they ae being downloaded as we speak,
Cheers,
Dave C

Franz Ferdinand are great. Have both of their albums. Too many great tracks to mention!
Pipettes sounds like something I might like. Will check them out for sure.

Well, I can't see the similarity between Franz Ferdinand and White Stripes or Strokes. Don't believe this reviewer anymore Franz Ferdinand are funny, had refreshed the "Yeah Yeah Yeahs". The Strokes are a little "elitist", but I like also. On the other hand, I got two White Stripes albums, but I can't see anything special yet, as Vik said (related to Ryan Adams), White Stripes are just not my cup of tea

I liked the first 2 White Stripes albums "White blood cells" and "The Elephant'.
The song "Seven Nation Army" - what brilliant guitar!
I love their more witty songs, rather than hard songs :-
"fell in love with a girl", "I just don't know what to do with myself", "Hotel yourba", "We are going to be friends", "There's no home for you here", "It's true that we love one another".
Their newer stuff..... I find most of it to be insufferable drivel. I know it's supposed to incredibly genius - but I just don't get it. Not one much for hard rock. I wish I liked it more.
Songs of the new album "Icky Thump" I find "tolerable" are :-
"You don't know what love is", "Conquest", "Rag and Bone", "Effect and Cause".
I do respect their ability to use the bagpipes and a mariachi band all within the same song. lol
P.S. There is no similarity whatsoever between Franz Ferdinand and White Stripes/Strokes... There are some similarities between the last two though.
P.P.S. It feels good to say I don't absolutely love The White Stripes. Everyone else seems to have a love affair with Jack White!

I only got the last two albums, Get Behind Me Satan and Icky Thump, maybe is this because I still don't get it
Well, I'll give them an opportunity and I'll try their first two albums.

I never bought the "Get Behind me Satan" CD and "Icky Thump" was more based on peer pressure
I do like "White Blood Cells" and The "Elephant". I mentioned the songs in my previous post.
I think you'll like those - "Elephant" in particular. That albums's quite good. Genius, by some standards.

just a small correction: the abovementioned albums are not the first ones: they had released two albums before (The White Stripes & De Stijl) which, in my opinion, are better than their music following The Elephant.
Otherwise, I totally agree with most of you - I do not get the White Stripes; fine tunes but...
As for the Franz Ferdinand debate, I think Dave C linked the Strokes/White Stripes with Yeah Yeah Yeahs and not Franz Ferdinand. And although I can see the point, I do not see why, Dave, you should not give YYYs a try. It's like if when Strokes came out, someone told me that they are a bad imitation of Ramones playing Velvet Underground covers...well, that's great; i love them both.
For YYYs, try "Map" and "Black Tongue" from Fever to Tell
For Franz Ferdinand, "Take me Out" can be considered a contemporary classic.

I am not a great Indie lover but I do like Nick Cave, I think "Grinderman" by Grinderman is sensational!
