Smile Free Grateful Dead on the Net - 07-21-2007, 01:13 AM

For those of you who don't know who the Grateful Dead were they were
One of the first Rock bands to improvise or now known as Jam Bands..
In 1967 one song alone could last 15 to 25 mins..of course they had
the 2:00 3:00 min..songs as well. They were influenced by the Modern Jazz players of the time like John Coltrane..Ornette Coleman..Pharoah Sanders
and others that were expanding Jazz past the Bop era .The Grateful Dead
were pushing Rock N' Roll in to a new phrase...besides Jazz there in the Deads
music in the early years was R&B,Blues and American Roots Country all blended together into one pot sometimes these Jams were enlightening
and wonderful and sometimes they were bad...But they were willing to take chances and as the years went on crafted a unique sound..That made them
one of the top touring Bands in the US without ever having a Corp. sponsor.
They would always allow Fans a section up front to record their Concerts
and set up Mikes and eqipment...They always gave their music away..before
it was popular..they sold many legit albums as well and made tons of dough..
and why? because they always respected there fans and made there music accessible to them..To this day...which brings me to:
WWW.dead.net They have free music in their Taper's Section..
http://www.dead.net/features/tapers-section
To download ..I use Flashget as a downloader...right click on the "song name"
link..and then save with flashget..they are all at 192 mp3 and sound very good..these downloads are much better than bootleg quality offered elsewhere on the net..The Dead did a very nice job offering their fans
and the masses free music... I know they may not be everybody's cup of tea
..my wife is not a big fan(but I won't tell anybody I caught her dancing at a few concerts way back...lol..)..But more bands should do more things like this to create good will among their fan base..and less Greed will make
you more successful in the long run..

There are many closet Dead Heads out there.... for some reason
many people do not like to admit they like The Dead...
I even hesitated about doing the post at all....
But saw the new site they reconstucted and was impressed...
and remembered how much they have meant to me over the years..
and said why not share it...
Glad you had a good time at the MeatLoaf show...he sure can sing..

I'll be sure to share the info about the site with my friends. Something tells me they probably already have it!!

Yep, Meat Loaf can belt out those 10-15 minute songs ... Speak about jam sessions My voice is totally shot from all the screaming. Fortunately I don't need it to type on here
