I am a sailor Mel and have a great affection for all creatures aquatic (in fact most species of shark are protected in Oz waters).

Actually, I am aware of the Fonze derived saying although I have rarely heard it used locally.

Cheers,

Squash

As for that topic, Martinman seemed in such a foul mood, I was trying to diplomatically put things into perspective for him. Personally, I saw no ambiguity in his post, but you seemed to. That's what I meant by jumping the shark, i.e. not sure to accept it at face value. Other native-English speakers seemed to too, though, so it's no disrespect intended to you 100% of the time you're actually a better English speaker/writer than a lot of British people I come across. I didn't mean to imply you wrote anything degrading. You didn't.

*Both are probably correct But "99% of the time" seems more common from what I hear.

I had to do a little studying before I understood what you meant by cats... I never get to see those guys

Thank you for explaining your thoughts behind your reply to the martinman post

Thanks, Mel

I guess my written English skills are pretty well developed considering that we only have three 45 minutes English lessons for 40 weeks each school year (from 5th grade till 10th grade) in our ground school system.

On top of that I had one year (three 45 minutes lessons x 40 weeks) in college (I was a mathematics/physics major) and since then I haven't had any other formal English training

Luckily, though, I'm not one of those guys, who's so full of himself that he feels the urge to brag all the time...*

*You see: I know irony

Sometimes (luckily they are few and far apart) I'm a really slow thinker

You have had that avatar for how many days now, Princess - and it wasn't until a few minutes ago that it occurred to me why

The duality of your choice is so resounding that you might as well have hit me in the head with it
