Stevie Ray Vaughan - 06-01-2007, 05:52 PM

Hey there, I'm just curious. I've been fighting many years with my friends about Stevie Ray. Someone hates him, someone loves him (like me). I must admit I like his "Little wing" (live) more than the original one (don't blame me). So why don't you tell something about it?

Thanks by a curious and music mad guy

SRV was awesome. I was lucky enough to see him perform three times, and it was just an incredible show everytime. One of the best for sure!

Hi Harod

I totally agree with u, about Steve Ray Vaughan. I think it's maybe the grestest guitar player. He improved, not only Hendrix's Little Wing, also Voodoo Chile.

Yesterday I was thinking about sending a post to ask for people's favorite guitar player. I think Steve Ray and Hendrix were (and still are) the best.

But, I'd like to know Nightfly's opinion.

I was fortunate as well as Bobwhite to see Stevie Ray Vaughn in Concert
at the Beacon Theater in NY... a concert I play over and over in my head..
Amazing and inspiring does not cover it! ..There is no argument among guitarists Stevie Ray was one of the greatest guitarist that ever lived..The only other guitarist that awed me as much was Hendrix that I saw in 1968 at the NY Felt Forum and at the Filmore East (the now famous Band Of Gypsy's album) New Year Eve 1969.......Stevie's songs don't matter..It's all about the playing.. Though he was a decent blues writer and excellent interperter...guys like Stevie ..didn't need "hits" to define him he had his guitar to do that ..The likes of him don't come around to often..

Nightfly it's amazing how much I agree with you in your music posts. As a journalist I can tell you I could publish what you wrote. Cool, mate.

Ciao

Thank You Harold...you're very kind.. ..I too was a writer for 2 years for the Daily Californian as
a NY Music Rep..1974-1976.. I would write a 3-4 paragraph review of 2 concerts in the NY area Met the Editor at a party I was playing at he liked me
and gave me a job.. was 20..It didn't pay much..but I got free press tickets
free burgers and my bar bill alone cost him a fortune...lol..I loved being a kid with a Press Pass would get into great stuff for free..but since I was young
they would sometimes tell me to get lost though my pic was right on it.. That's why I can write a little because the editor was always trashing my pieces..I learned to have a thick skin at a young age...lol..but also worked in college news papers doing pieces on music and underground papers..I majored in English but didn't get my degree..wasn't academically inclined..more musically
inclined and went on the road..
Thanks,
Nightfly

That is an incredible story to be able to tell, that you have seen both Hendrix and SRV. I doubt many people can say that. Very cool.

Bobwhite...It's called longevity..lol..and the passion we all share here for
a musical experience..we all have great stories ..we just have to share them..
I like to to live in the now.. and don't like to look back that often.. but I do so
to share a bit of who I am and it is our common musical history that helps us bond in a very real global way here..which leads to a better understanding and hopefully, he says with some naivety ..to Peace
