Don't know about their Christmas albums - but the Beethoven's Last Night album is fantastic. I love it ! If only to wet your appetite, download the "Mephistopheles' Return" track. I promise you'll love it too. It's wound up in my top 10 play count on my iPod - and that's saying something!

Talking Wainwright VS. Ravel - 11-29-2007, 11:13 PM

This thread and the one Frunze started (Coco De Mer & remix of Carmen) got me to thinking about other 'classical' tracks which have been rehashed by modern day artists. On the Wolf Hoffman album track 3 'Habanera' I recognised as being other re jigging of Carmen (Aren't you impress with me Nightfly). I will be partying with squash in the banning room because I like both versions, but does anyone else have any other examples of artists redoing the classics? My favorite is Rufus Wainwright's 'Oh What A World' (great cover version of Ravel's Boléro, much better than the original). Any others,
Cheers,
Dave C
Dave,

Yes the banning room is quite a festive place, having spent some time there
myself awhile back ,I can attest to that.Dave I am very impressed with your
Carmen reference(my favorite)....

But I think you should be making plans for your new Xmas Tree..

Rufus Wainwright's knock off of the master Ravel's Boléro better
than Ravel's original version..

Dave,Dave,Dave.....

You're still the man though...

Do we want tacky, with flashing lights and a big fairy or boring, white lights & little star on top. Guess which get my vote,
Cheers,
Dave

I think we'll go with the tacky flashing lights and a big fairy...
I personally would prefer a Angel...but it's your tree...

The banning thread party is in my car, which is where other members of my household (with the exception of the labrador, who is trying to crawl his way back to avatar status) have insisted is the only place I can listen to the Wolf man.

Come on Nightfly and Solaris, I bet you have got a piece of trashed classic somewhere in your prodigious collections that will earn you a ticket to the party

Tonight I will dig out my favorite "alternative" Xmas music - guaranteed to keep the party going right up to Dec 25

I had plans to put up the tree this weekend anyway.

Squash,

I have "Pictures at a Exhibition" by Mussorgsky as done by by Emerson Lake and Palmer
and Becks Bolero by Jeff Beck...but I don't care for them much..

But nether the less I will meet you by the tree..
and I like the "alternative" Xmas music idea.

I have been shown my hat and pointed towards the banning thread MANY times for expressing my devotion to the stuff in the US and UK charts

Especially my 80's stuff: Samantha Fox, Sabrina... et cetera
