Convert .avi file to dvd file - 08-10-2008, 04:05 PM

Hi everyone.

I must be an idiot because I cannot get this to work. I downloaded a movie that is 2 .avi files total (unlocked them using winrar) and then now am trying to merge the 2 separate .avi files into one so I can create 1 dvd for the movie. I put both of the files together in one folder and then opened winavi converter, but it will not convert both files together. Am I doing something wrong?

Marc

OK, update to my update. After downloading the movie, converting it to a dvd file and then burning it to a dvd, I put it in my dvd player and started watching it on my 60" TV. IT SUCKS quality wise!! So much for doing that..

I recommend getting a 9 inch TV; It'll look great on that

Normally one of these two things happens, when you download an .avi version of your mother's 60 year birthday:

1. When you right click on the part1-file, WinRAR unpacks the seven archives and creates ONE .avi file, which you can then let your .avi To DVD software well... convert from .avi to DVD

2. The seven files you download are named .001, .002, ... .007

What to do now?

Not to worry: Download HJSplit (freeware) here: Download HJSplit

Install the application, run it, browse (inside the application) to find the .001 file and let HJSplit join the seven parts for you. You now have your .avi file, which you can then let your .avi To DVD software well... convert from .avi to DVD

You can find a manual on how to use HJSplit here: HJSplit manual

When it comes to quality:

Your brother will probably release your mother's birthday party in an early edited (analogue) version and call it one of the below:

Cam
Telesync
Workprint
Screener
R5
Telecine

All of the above came from his analogue videocamera, so wait for him to release a version, which he has made 100% digitally:

DVDRip
DVDR
HDTV or DSRip

Then you will be able to watch it on your huge TV
