Excellent!! I am still trying to figure out how it works myself. It seems to download anywhere between 350KB/s and 5B per second depending on whether I whisper sweet nothings to it or a colorful assortment of british curse words. Hopefully I will be able to tame the beast soon

Hi Lord Fly, I am changing my ISP and have to live with a 15gb limit per month, however if my downloads are between midnight and 07:59 in the morning then they don't count towards my limit. So if I can schedule my downloads to start at 00:01 then ............

I see,that makes perfect sense.
Thats a bummer about the 15gb restriction.
It seems like a lot, but there's more to downloading than music.
And could be used up quickly without realizing it.
Sounds like you have it all fiqured out though....

hirs, suggestion, dont do just that. thats what everybody does, and in the first few minutes after
midnight also the banks and other commercial institutions start their transmissions. extremely slow,
bad and broken connections, and even unrecoverable malconnections are (still) quite common the
first few seconds/minutes after midnight. time the start to something uneven like 00:08 or 00:13, and
in the long run, you will be better of. specially when you are not sitting there watching and correcting it.

found out the hard way myself. took 6 months. started mail and file collection at 00:01, sometimes
it worked, sometimes it corrupted, sometimes nothing happened at all. checked the computer on all
sides 100 times, rewrote scripts and batch files, reset entire prog chains, nothing. got mad at people
who didnt know what to answer anymore. then found out by just setting the starting time some 12
minutes later all, but really all, those problems vanished. forever.

I have also been using Free Download Manager based on a post / recommendation from Solaris. It's really easy to use, has little overhead, and has worked great for me.

Doh! Answer to my own question -

b) My ISP is one of those cosying up to the BPI so screw 'em
Anyway the one downside of my new ISP is I can only download 15gb a month - Pathetic I hear you all cry, however between Midnight and 8am I can download whatever I want without limit.
So, the question is "does anyone have personal experience of using a Download Manager with a schedule facility?" (i.e. I can tell it at 9.00pm to download said files at 12.01am) I don't mind paying $20 or so if it comes recommended from someone who has positive first hand experience.
Any ideas?

Dang Free Download Manager is totally the answer to my problem.
I've been using it for a while now but never noticed that at the bottom of the download box there are three options to download:
Automatically
Manually
Schedule
By selecting Schedule and then clicking the clock icon you can select the date and time you want to start the download. I've used it a few times now and it works perfectly.
The only warning I would give is don't try to schedule the download from the main FDM window as it won't work.
Ah well hope that helps anyone else who needs to schedule downloads
