FlashGet is a great piece of software, but all of their builds since they introduced BitTorrent support have been broken in one way or another. Very extremely latest builds do have an occasional problem whereby the first 'Jet' will be unable to download anything and just stalls... pausing/resuming the download fixes that, but yes it is annoying.

Ever since they introduced BT support, the 'max number of downloads' setting has little effect - it defaults to 5, but I've seen it open up as many threads as 30... I can set it to 1 but it still goes crazy... really screws up d/ling from some sites that only support one connection at a time. I'm really surprised they havn't fixed it, it's been years.

In short : Anyone who wants to use FlashGet trouble free, I highly recommend they go to filehippo.com and grab one of the 1.7x builds. Prefereably 1.71. The later builds just get worse...

Hi Hotcakes.

Thank you for mentioning www.FileHippo.com, which is a great place to get older versions of software. They even have a (free) nifty update checker: http://www.filehippo.com/updatechecker/

Four other fine places to find older versions are these:

http://www.oldversion.com/

http://oldapps.com/

http://old-versions.net/

http://www.321download.com/LastFreeware/index.html (sometimes great freeware unfortunately develops into shareware, then this is the place to go)

Lol...Nightfly didn't tell me to use Flashget. I already had it downloaded and he was just trying to help me figure out how to use it more effectively.
Which he did. I am figuring it out. I just need some practice.
I greatly appreciated his help!!

Do you get Winzip free or did you buy it?
Forget about WinZip. Use the free and open-source 7-zip instead.

Problem with Flashget - 02-13-2008, 02:50 PM

I have been using flashget for a whole range of sites for over 6 months or so and really like it and trust it. However in the past two weeks I have had a problem - If flashget is fully installed when I try to open Mp3Sale it will open the home page and then close it down - a problem with a conflicting .dll file IIRC (I'm here in work). If I disable Flashget by deleting the prog files then I can open MP3sale - select all my DLs then reinstall Flashget and then download them as normal. Mp3fiesta works fine with Flashget.

Anybody have any ideas? What could be up - it is not a major problem just annoying.

Thanks

Elf

Was your wife already in bed when she made her request?

I'd hazard a guess it's one of the Internet Explorer plugins it installs that's conflicting with something. They're not... great. In case you don't know how, go to Tools --> Manage Add-ons --> Enable or Disable Add-ons... Then you can select and Disable any or all of the following plugins - FGCatchUrl, FlashGet and/or FlashGet GetFlash Class. This is for IE7, is slightly different process for IE6, but not much.

I'd probably advise to disable all of them, although if you do that you will have to right click and 'Download with FlashGet' anything that you want to... well, download with flashget. I think the FGCatchUrl plugin is the culprit for click monitoring but I wouldn't advise running it without the other plugins running. FYI, I have them all disabled because of the problems they caused about 12 months ago and never bother re-enabling them when updating FG, so I can't say how stable they are anymore... but I'd assume 'not very'.
