flashget hits a foul on the first swing. - 02-12-2008, 07:51 PM

A moderator told me to come here for tech issues.
I tried to use Flashget to download an album on mp3sale.
Chose "download all with Flashget", then told it to only download mp3 files, which kept it from getting all the other junk on the download page. That was good. Then chose music file to save to.
Began the download and all looked good, so I walked off to do the dishes.
When I retuned in 20 mins, Flashget had crapped out at 99% on the last 3 of 4 songs on the album and didn't start the last one at all. I was unable to restart it or prod it back into finishing the job.
The vista desktop went into standby while I was away from it for 20 mins; this is aggravating as it ought to be able to sense that it is busy doing something. So perhaps this accounted for the pause, but why didn't it crank back up when I brought the screen back up??
Any suggestions to make this work better next time? I don't have Alltunes to work with anymore.

I can't offer any advice on flashget as I have never used it, but if you are downloading from mp3sale the easiest way is to use sites 'convert to a zip file' and download that in a single go. This is nice and easy and very fast, particularly if you use a download manager as well,
Cheers,
Dave C

Thanks, I did see that they offer the zip files. But when I initially tried to go that route, a box popped up on my screen that said my free trial to winzip had expired and now I would have to pay for it....

Do you get Winzip free or did you buy it?
BTW, I deleted the unfinished songs in Flashget and redownloaded them from scratch. This worked, but it is still annoying that if you leave the computer during the download and windows goes to stand-by, you can't pick up where you left off.

I thought winzip just came with computers (think it was already on this one when I got it??). If this is not the case I am sure someone came let you know where to get it for free,
Cheers,

Hi arrowspace90.

Nightfly is very fond of FlashGet - but like you I never managed to get to function correctly

But I have just helped someone else with this issue. This is what you do:

If you use Firefox with the FlashGot extension (get it here: FlashGot - Best Firefox Download Manager Integration - what is it? - InformAction ), you can use any downloader to "FlashGot All" purchased tracks by right clicking anywhere in the "Paid Tracks" or "My Music" browser window - and then filter away the links that doesn't contain a MP3 file extension.

I use Free Download Manager, which I can highly recommend for both speed and ease of use. Get Free Download Manager here: Free Download Manager | Download

And off you go with up to 3000 KB/Sec.

I have NEVER had ANY download troubles using that combination

Note: On top of this you'll have a PM in a minute

I did not recommend Flashget to arrowspace...

He asked for help on how to use it...
I have stopped making recommends on such things because of above member responses and thanks.

Sorry, Nightfly - I just assumed it was you arrowspace90 meant, since he/she said a moderator told him/her to use FlashGet. Maybe it was a moderator from another forum he/she was thinking about

Thumbs up good day - 02-12-2008, 11:52 PM

hello and good day,

winzip is free if you do a google search you can download a trial version that works just fine.

i use download accelerator and it is also free, you can google it. this is the only dlm that i have ever used and it is top notch. i increased my dl speeds and also saves the dl if you get a broken file or whatever. this dlm is great for wmv files or other type of movie files.

thanks,

cr

Yes"a moderator" named Nightfly gave him a cut and paste that
worked for someone else awhile back..figured it would work again..

He was doing one at a time with "his" Flashget and wanted info on how to
do them all...and so I responded....
why it didn't work..he walked away..we'll never know what happened.
but it must be my fault .....
