Angry internet quesiton - 04-01-2008, 01:18 AM

hello and good day,

right now im currently stuck out of town on and old pc running windows 2000 pro and im using ie on it. i have been using wireless internet on this machine from time to time. when i need to dl lots of info i hard wire this computer to the cable modem which is located far away. i have around 200 feet of ethernet wire for this task.

here is my question. every time i hard wire the cpu i have to shut down windows and restart the cpu to get online. is there another way to get connected instead of restarting the cpu every time.

thanks,

cr

I'm no expert, but you could go into your network settings after you wire up and make sure your LAN connection is enabled. If it is, disable then re enable it.

a 200ft ethernet cable is also quite long, it may be that the pc has trouble detecting the connection due to this.

Good luck

Hi shadman

You may have to manually disable the wireless connection, to force the use of the wired connection (go to Start>Settings>Network Connections, right-click your wireless connection, and choose Disable). You need to be logged in as an Administrator to do this, and you may have to repeat the process to Enable the wireless connection again when you've finished.

hello gm,

i will try this next time i have to dl much info. i'll let you know if it works. that seems like it should work. its always a pain to restart this old machine for that one general purpose.

thanks,
