Question itunes & new computer - 01-16-2008, 12:40 PM

Does anyone know if it is possible to transfer play counts and track ratings over to i-tunes when moving to a new computer. I am not that fussed about the play counts really, but I have got lots of tracks rated and I use the top-rated play list all the time so it will be a real drag if I lose this info. Any advice would be greatly welcomed ,
Cheers,
Dave C

Hey Dave, Sorry not on my home PC right now but have a look round iTunes help or a Google search. I am certain you can export Playlists including ratings etc. (and re-import them to your new PC). I'm sure one of our resident experts will hit the nail on the head sometime soon but if no other response try that.

You can export whole library completely intact with playlists, counts, ratings, date-added and all that stuff. I've done it before, but not recently. I'm not in front of my home computer at the moment, so can't really give exact advice, but just look at the "export" option for now under the main File menu. I remember doing a bit of Googling to get everything right. Suggest you do a bit of that as well. I was pretty fussy about transferring my library as is, because all my playlists are based on Date Added and Play Counts.

Cheers for the advice, looks like it's not as simple as I was hoping for but can be done without too much hassle. I just wish it were as easy to get the basics done first like getting my new computer to see the internet,
Cheers,
Dave C

My third night in a row swearing at my new shiny new computer. If I get anymore hassle it will be this one going out the window and not the old one. At least I am on-line now, and with a monitor sooo big that I am at risk of straining my neck,

Thumbs up How I did it - 01-18-2008, 10:53 PM

NB. Thanks for the advice. I found the required info on a very helpful (if not a little geeky) computer forum. I will cut & paste the very simple method which I used (it only took a matter of minutes to do),
Cheers,
Dave C

How to transfer your rated tunes to a new computer: -
Old computer:-
make 5 playlists, one for each number of "stars"
export those 5 playlists (xml files)

New computer:-
import the 5 playlists into itunes
give all the songs in each of those playlists the corresponding number of stars using select all + command.

Job done
