Lightbulb More home streaming... - 10-21-2008, 10:09 PM

This is mainly for koenfucius, but I'm posting it here in case it's useful to others. And it's kind of relevant to the other thread about home streaming.

I recently bought one of those little wireless gizmos sold for listening to your iPod on a car radio. With the 3 volt batteries in it, it had the claimed range of 9 feet. But with a 5 volt external supply, it now covers the whole house clearly. Running off the headphone socket of a laptop, it plays the same music through any radio. If you reach the point of walking around with a pocket radio and earphones, you might conclude that you should just use an iPod but this also works with internet radio etc.

My gizmo is the iSound iC-12, ten pounds from Woolworths, which has both co-ax and USB power connectors. And it sounds fine. YMMV. Power supply not included.

I too have just bought one of those devices to enable the use of my mp3 player in the car. It works great and if anything it is a little too powerful as it tends to bleed over frequencies other than the one it's tuned to.

This is the one I got - MY-Link Wireless LCD FM Transmitter Radio Mp3 IPOD 205: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo
