I would say yes (owning a Jetta that i take off-roading a lot) that this conversation could be ended on that point but a challenger will arise to defend american cars.... sadly..... even the govt. things that american cars should be defended....

Unfortunately not!

There seems to be only once place in the world that produces quality cars these days - Asia.

I had Land Rover 4x4s for years and got used to having to fix them all the time, especially one of the last classic shape Range Rovers that had acquired electrics (windows, door locks, alarm etc.) that almost never worked.

I am now on my second Toyota Amazon and would now never buy anything else.

>> Added oil to a Ford and a Chevy ...

hold it, all of you. just found an interesting multi-page entry in another forum,
discussing synthetic vs semi-synthetic vs pure mineral engine oils, and the fact
that synthetic was a pure sales gimmick, being overpriced by 500-1000% at times ...

would that not be something we should discuss here in depth? am sure it would get
solaris screaming at us again.

greets - henry

The biggest motoring con ever must be the Land Rover, which is supposed to have a reputation for rugged reliability. Years ago I had a Series III and it used to break down every day. Fair enough, if you break down in the desert in a Land Rover you can probably bend a few tin cans and coathangers and carry out an acceptable repair but you definitely have to be a trained mechanic to drive one. These days I have a VW and it's no trouble at all.

The orignal topic was chevy or ford..not was the best car
It is easy to dismiss them both but I have owned GM cars with great
success and could care less about what the Gov't thinks.

I have also owned a Toyota years ago that was small and wonderful.
But that has nothing to do with chevy or ford.
Ford is good while under warrenty for the first few years and then
beaks down..I have seen this with many unfortunate ford owners.

You did mean under "warranty",and also "breaks" down, right.
Yep.Statistics speak for themselves.
Look in the autos For Sale section of any newspaper, you will see several pages of fords for sale.
Chevy will have only a few listings.
What that means is those who own a chevy, want to keep it.
And those who own a ford want to get rid of it.

As for the more exotic overpriced foreign cars,it's all a bunch of hype.
I've worked on several, and the quality of the internal engine parts are nothing to brag about.

I had a friend who was stationed overseas while in the services.
He bought a used, but still very new, jagquar quite cheap.
When he attempted to bring it back to the states,US customs informed him of all the safety features, parts required by regulations etc. that he would need to install on it before it was allowed to enter the states.

After realizing how much this would cost him,he concluded that he's made a big mistake in buying it,and sold it even cheaper before he returned.
In the end,he could just buy one here in the states,"overpriced" for the same amount he would have to invest in the one he already owned.

Once he was back,he settled for a new beamer instead.
But my old faithful chevy with a 468 cu.in engine,(built by me) blew it away.
So much for that high priced heap of metal.
