We are talking substantives/nouns - NOT pronouns..
English never was my favorite subject.
Adjectives,conjunctions,verbs,pronouns.....
Guess that is what Open Office is used for.
To set me straight.

I HATE Open Office - it REALLY SUCKS
I'm with you on this one. I just started working for a German company that only uses "open source" products and Open Office is what they use for spreadsheets, letter docs, etc. I am a wiz at word, excel and powerpoint and now feel like a moron trying to re-learn. However I HAVE learned that if Microsoft Office 2007 on Vista will translate Open Office docs over to Microsoft for you (formulas and all), so I solved my problem for the most part since I use Excel more than anything. These guys also prefer Firefox, and a few other open source programs yet still use Windows instead of Linux, go figure

GO SOX!!!!!!!

I wonder if this is why Solaris doesn't like..err HATES,DESPISES,HAS FIRE IN THE HAT towards Open Office?
I don't use it myself, but this is the first I've heard of these kinds of complaints,at a board where windows is dominant.
I suspect Solaris uses windows exclusively as well?

At all the linux boards I frequent,I am always reading "solutions" to,and how well Open Office can handle all the windows derived formats.

Maybe if this open source application was used with a open source operating system, such as linux, these issues would be non-existant?

Also,it's quite possible that a language configuration may be needed to Open Office to correspond with different languages.
It may be that English is the "assumed" language, and in the examples Solaris has given such a fruitjuice vs. fruit juice,as far as in English language is concerned, the spelling really is incorrect.
There are many linux apps I have installed that come default with the English/US configurations.
There are 50-60 more language and/or country configurations that can be added to the config files if needed.
Of course,I don't need it.
The main reason why it isn't there by default.

If OO were to be adapted to another language(or several other languages),it may say that both spellings are correct.
Who knows? I don't.
I don't use OO as I've already mentioned.
I just know these type of "special" configurations are needed with almost all open source applications.
Do you want the KDE or Gnome menu in Polish,or Russian,or Hebrew?
Just add the configuration files to KDE base for these languages.
It's done.

As you have said here:

if you do re-learn OO,you may find it doesn't suck at all.
You may find it is actually much better, and free!

I don't know, rolly - let's see what you have to say...

Which reminds me:

When my students have written an essay at home (on their Windows computers using Microsoft Word) and they bring a usb-stick containing the essay to school, then the real trouble starts

When they open the Word file in OpenOffice, all the formatting is screwed up - and if they have included images - these will be placed somewhere totally random

All my colleagues have the same complaint...

I simply can't see how this would help matters - quite the contrary:

Then they would all have to learn the many facets of a new OS at school, while using Windows at home (which they do because 99.9 percent of all computers here in ....... come with Windows installed).

OpenOffice at my school is set at ...... as default - not English, so if anything should be fixed by someone, it should be done by the English-..... translator

You're a lucky guy, rolly - I can tell you that...

I'm 99.999999 percent certain that these have been implemented at my school - but I'll ask the VERY competent administrator, when our 10-day holiday is over...

Free is good - but not when it's useless... and right now it is just that...

OpenOffice sucks totally
