Thanks guys for your advice.
You could be right, Kaeli, as a lot of the .rar files I have had to re-tag due to wrong info on them.
In the future I will try to resist doing that, even though I like to have everything properly tagged and in the correct genre etc.
Hopefully that will solve the problem.

That will do it, because when the name changes in any way the system sees it as a different file, where it is looking for the specific "original" name. That being said, once downloaded you can change them but make sure you update / sync your library on your media player and it should find it.

My Mac is more than satisfied to "un-rar" with the default StuffIt Expander.

Seriously? I will try now to "un-rar" the book by Faleev (still trying to get back into my Olive Oyl appearance) I grabbed yesterday on some forum. Will report back.

Sure enough, unzips in a... wait... what do you call it?? A NEW YORK MINUTE!!

I was about to pose the very question in the OP but then thought I'm sure someone has asked it before. So there's one less thread needed starting!

I bet we would have replied to you in the nicest way possible (albeit somewhat indulgent) even if you had posed this question so soon after furrball did the same

If filename is abc.rar then>
Press Home key.
Terminal opens,type unrar e abc.rar
I'm done.
Now what's this stuff (pun intended) about Stuffit Expander?
Did you install an application just to open a .rar file?
