Thank you for that tip, Vik
I checked and I did not have that setting enabled.
I have now enabled it, so hopefully that will solve my problem

zip gives better compression i.e. smaller files although can take longer to decompress.
Rar slightly worse in compression although much faster in decompression.

Excellent. And now for the next step, go to "Advanced"-> "consolidate library". That will copy all the music to your new location (which you can select and and change if you want). It would take "awhile" depending on the size of your music library. Probably best if you remove the music later from where it used to be, such that you don't have it in 2 places!

I am potentially proposing a HUGE task - reorganizing the location of your whole music library. So don't do it on a whim. It works pretty well for me, but it's totally up to you whether you want to do the same.

Thanks, Vik, but I don't think I'll attempt that at the moment, sounds a bit scary to me, I don't want to mess up my precious music library

I appreciate your help though.

As long as you know that having selected to copy the music into the iTunes Library all NEW music from now on will go into that central location.

.rar question - 07-18-2008, 09:49 PM

Howdy everyone,

I'm downloading something that is several .rar files/links (7 of them) from a certain site to be named later that is a dvd file and I am trying to put them together to burn them as one file onto a dvd. Is this easy to do?

Hi Mehrens, the way it usually works is that you open 'Part.1' and then drag the file out of the RAR utility and that will tell the file to get all the other 'parts' to make one single file.

Not to sure how well I explained that but hopefully you get the gist

Hi mehrens2112

I have heard that normally one of these two things happens, when you download your brother's .avi version of the latest family gathering:

1. When you right click on the part1-file, WinRAR unpacks the seven archives and creates ONE .avi file, which you can then let VSO ConvertXToDVD well... convert from .avi to DVD

2. The seven files you download are named .001, .002, ... .007

What to do now?

Piece a cake: Download HJSplit (freeware) here: Download HJSplit

Install the application, run it, browse (inside the application) to find the .001 file and let HJSplit join the seven parts for you. You now have your .avi file, which you can then let VSO ConvertXToDVD well... convert from .avi to DVD
