You get 250 KB - not gb.

I have looked into this - and if I wanted to store my mp3 collection of about 125gb (minimum) it would take about 160 days of my PC on 24 hours a day and not using it much to upload! Once you have uploaded 50gb the maximum is 0.5gb per day.

I am the culprit, I incorrectly said 250 GB in my post (I wish!). It sure is MB.
It seems there might be a little bit of confusion about what Mozy offers compared to some of the other on-line storage services. As I understand it, Mozy is just a backup service, not one where you can selectively retrieve and deposit data as you would on an external hard drive. I believe there are on-line services that allow you to do this or to store your music library and then stream it back to a media player on a/your computer. Although I don't know how such a service would avoid the attention and claws of you know who

I have had a look at MediaMax, the other service referred to in the first post. It is different to Mozy in that it is a true on-line storage and retreival service, and then some. You can, for example, also allow others (friends?) to access and downlaod all or some of your stored files, including MP3's. It will stream
MP3's (but not if they are DRM infected).
I had a quick look at some reviews and discovered that their minimum monthly charge (for 100GB) has come down from $15 in June 06 to $5 now. You get 25GB free with conditions. While the reviews were generally very positive, one review had a follow up forum with a number of users complaining bitterly about the quality of the service. These were all late 06 so things may have improved.
I think I will try the free offer with 5-10 GB of music and see how it performs and report back here in a couple of months.
I still don't know how they get around the copyright issue - based in the USA as well.

Here is a link to a site with a good summary of all the services currently available as well as an analysis of available reviews and tests.
Online Backup Services, Internet Backup Service Reviews
If security of your data is important, Mozy is the better backup option as the data is encrypyed for both for uploads and downloads. Obviusly, for music storage and retrieval, this should not be an issue.

I've now done hours of research. And now know the difference between synch backing up (mozy) and archiving data (mediamax). Ive read tons of reviews and all the small print.

And mozy does look like the best option, it has a very good customer history and quality service, although mediamax's has had a patchy time in the past couple of months.
