Note: It's REALLY not that hard still getting XP
It is if you are computer illiterate (i.e. me) and you just want to walk into a shop (or Dell) and buy a plug&play computer

It's been a long time

Dave,
You're not alone.

I have XP on my desktop and Vista on my laptop...XP is fine by me,except
for the cache having to be cleaned on a regular basis..Vista is nice but I
think bloated and some old stuff needed driver changes extc..Dave you can't
buy a XP PC now if you wanted..I tried to find one to replace my desktop with XP..no go. I was thrilled when I got 1 gig memory on my XP....
now I'm reading about 28 gig here online for a 64 platform...oh my....

Cheers,

Nightfly

yea that's an insane amount of memory.

i'll tell you i'm running vista with 6 gigs and it is really smooth. the system has not crashed on time or locked up. i can multitask like no other. i can dl a bunch of movies or music at one time, watching live tv, surf the net with 20-30 tabs open and lets just say a virus scan all at once with nothing slowing down. it's truly amazing.

my friend has vista with maybe 1 gig and it runs like sh*t. vista is truly a memory hog but for me it's worth it.

cr

Just the other day I made an experiment with Firefox: I tried having 150 tabs running simultaneously and my PCs performance wasn't affected one bit - mainly because of the Customize Google add-on, which blocks Google Analytics

Out of curiousity, what did your tab bar look like?
Was there any room left on your screen to read the web page?

You mean it was late for it's crash?
Dang.Windows can't even crash when it's supposed to anymore.

It might be a skin that I am using, but when you open a large number of tabs, it turns into a scroller and all tabs are fixed readable length.

Of course I failed miserably after I opened 75 or so But yeah, Customize Google is a great friend of mine. Thank you, solaris

I knew what you meant,I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to get in a vista joke.

If the box vista is running in sits on a wooden desk, don't knock on that wooden desk.
That may be all it takes to get that first crash.
