Question Rumours - 07-19-2007, 01:51 PM

A few weeks ago, when MP3Sparks.com was officially taking over from AllOfMP3.com, I noticed that MemphisMembers was being mentioned in several of the articles on the matter.

Those people must have written about MM with no insight knowledge, since it was rumoured that the price per Megabyte was higher, when you joined MM. Did anyone else notice this?

Regards, viracocha

All I've noticed is free music ($15 for me) faster 'assistance' and a wonderful exclusivity that makes me feel warm and fuzzy...

Other than that it seems to be exactly the same, I didn't notice any change in pricing.

As for wild rumors in the general populous about MM, they range from "It's a cult" to "they steal your credit card numbers" to "it's all love, peace and free music dude"

Good question! So I did some analysis to come up with viable theories, just like I did in the good old times, along with the former moderator So the way the pricing works in general is that there is a price per megabyte plus potentially a charge for encoding - the algorithm would be something like Price = F + (S x B), where F is the cost to process/encode any song (probably depends on what encoding you choose etc), S is the size in megabytes, and B is the price per meg. So smaller songs cost more per megabyte than larger songs because fixed cost gets spread out over less megs (see, I am explaining it for the sake of the rest of the forum because you I am sure are somewhat familiar with math ). However, there is no difference for a 10 meg song I bought as an Allofmp3 member vs. a 10 meg song I bought as a Memphis Member, which leads me to believe that you're right once again - the rumors are baloney.

They are extremely perceptive too, I thought, and may be onto some newly created antics on this forum...
