russian titles? - 03-28-2008, 08:33 PM

Howdy,

I'm sure it was noted before that sparks recently removed access to their russian music catalogue. That came rather as a shock, though luckily old links still work and expose the cyrillic navigation in its full glory. Now that my balance is depleted anyway, the former issue was superseded by the latter one anyway. Oh well.

I am now looking for alternate catalogues that have a decent collection of russian pop music or let's say any song with cyrillic characters :-)

I looked at a couple but many seem to be limited to an English selection, or only very few russian titles. Would be most interested in a wide selection of contemporary pop music like savitsheva, orbakaite, maksim... you get the drift. (And no, I am not proud of my music taste, but alas... only I and my neighbours have to deal with it...)

Any recommendation? Большое спасибо!

Hi Nightfly,

thanks for the speedy reply! looked at Mclub again and I don't know what happened but it's covering some. I must have had tomatoes on my vision on the last visit.

Just for completeness: i am still missing good ole' AOM3. But it's great to know others are picking up the loose ends! Live long and prosper...

Can you please explain? I get access to the Russian in both Mp3sparks and Memphismembers. Can't you just type in the name of the artist you're interested in? I typed in "аквариум" since that's what I bought most recently (the old ones, of course), and they all came up. Now - the word "russian" next to the alphabet where you can select songs no longer shows up in Sparks, that's true - but it's still there in Memphismembers, for those of you who care enough.

This is a sign of something; Solaris, Vik, wouldn't you say??

Oh and as far as getting russian music - check on RuTunes which sites are based in Ukraine - because of the copyright laws that Russia has, they may or may not show some of the Russian titles; Ukraine couldn't care less about the Russian copyright laws, that's why their Russian music library will likely be more extensive.

Hi Frunze,

thanks for the tips!

exactly, the albums still seem to be there, and you can access them through the search or your collection. (Once you are at a russian album, the cyrillic navigation reappars.)

I asked sparks assistance some time ago, and they replied that they are no longer offering their russian catalogue...

I found this statement a bit strange as they seem to be still adding russian artists.

I made a post on the same subject a few times before. Basically when you are on Sparks, look at the URL that comes up. You'll see either "volume_1" or "vol=1" depending on where you are on the sight. If you change that 1 to a 6, the Russian alphabet comes up with no problems. I discovered it at some point when Sparks first stopped displaying the Russian catalogue by comparing the URL of Sparks with that of MM. Good luck!

Whilst you can get the Russian cataloug up on sparks by typing in the artist name, I don't think they are adding any albums to the list.
