What Are These Codes & Do My Files Need Them? - 01-29-2008, 10:25 PM

I'm looking at some Django Reinhardt discs, and each track title is preceded my a code, such as: OLA 1952-1 St Louis Blues.

I suspect this is a means by which classical music is cataloged, that people can distinguish between orchestras, performances, and dates. Is that the case?

Should I put these codes in my file names? Do YOU put codes in your file names? I'll have to come up with something to distinguish between multiple recordings of the same composition on the various CDs I'm ripping.

Thanks.

No classical music cataloguing that I'm aware of.

I assume what you've stumbled across is a record label's own catalogue/index number for that CD. If you look at any CD, they all have some sort of code on there.
