Thumbs up Anyone else tested the Creative Xmod sound enhancer ? - 05-15-2007, 04:33 AM

Hi all (again)

Just wanted to ask if anyone else is using the Creative xmod sound enhancer.

I purchased mine a few weeks ago "just to try it" and beleive it or not I can't anymore listen to music without it !

This thing is incredible ! It boosts' your mp3's to such a perfection level that the sound of your mp3's become MUCH better than those from an original CD !

Must say I wasn't convinced before my purchase but after you tried it you may ask yourself how you survived so many years without it ;-)

If you've got +/- US $ 80 to spend DO IT, you won't regret !

Less important, it also adds a volume button to your computer (at least on Mac) and has a so called 3D sound function (that's not sooo good for all tracks).

I'm curious to read your answers !

Regards !

I'm using the Xmod. You're right this thing is amazing.

The 3D works fine when watching movies or live football. It's like you are in the stadium.

Buying the Xmod was one of my best investments.

using the xmod on several systems. the smaller the HIFI is, the more the difference
is obvious. i have though learned that with many sounds it is wise to turn it well down,
still sounding amazingly good, but well before artifacts (sZZZ-sounds) set in.

Honestly this is not good. Might be fine if you dont have a decent hifi but detail can only be lost when passing the signal through this device. I have the Crystiliser as part of my Xfi sound card, its the same thing. It emphaises symbols and the bass notes and takes away the quality of the recording. So as someone said before, on rubbish speakers this will make a big difference but with anything half decent, stay away!

I fully agree, jazzy

I have used these speakers: harman/kardon with my PC for 2-2½ years now - and a few months into their 'reign', I also tried connecting Creative's X-Mod 'thingy' to my computer. Nothing positive what so ever came out of that little experiment

with speakers like you mention, and a good feed and amp behind it, naturally a gadget
like X-Mod makes little sense. but with a standard computer setup, and even some rather
reasonable mid-class speakers connected to it, give it a try.

by the way, the actual circuit in the sound card is NOT the same as in the external USB
unit, which is supposed to sound 'smoother'.

i have one other reason for occasinally turning it on, even recording thru it: when you
have some low class, low bit-rate, poor sounding recordings that you can NOT replace
or get again, anywhere, but love dearly, at least you can to a degree refresh the sound to
something much more enjoyable and listenable.
